From the Featured ArticleThe United Provinces of the Plus Plus, commonly abbreviated U3P, was a military and economic alliance throughout the +,+ region during Civcraft 2.0. Consisting of Blackcrown, New Danzilona, Little Latvia, Loveshack, and Holy Tree, among others, the countries formed the alliance due to continued raids and desire for further cooperation in the quadrant. Additionally, they were able to give protectorate status to other nations who were not in the quadrant. Compared to other alliances at the time, the U3P had a relatively concrete governmental structure, with an elected senate and secretary general, and reasonable joining policies. Additionally, they were able to provide bastions, XP access, snitches, nether portal access and other various late-game services to their alliance members. The U3P was one of the major alliances of Civcraft 2.0, and made agreements with the NEA and Prussia, among others. Despite this, the alliance had not been involved in most of the major wars, although international agreements would be broken upon the breakout of the Riverford War. In later iterations, the U3P became the main group for founding the Volantian Federation in Civcraft 3.0, and Provincia in CivClassic. (Full article...) |

From the Featured ArticleThe Generic War was a major serverwide war on CivMC between Rhode Island and Estalia’s allies in the Elysian Pact. The war started in late July 2022 following continued grievances from CivClassic and Civcraft. Despite efforts to de-escalate tensions between the countries, Rhode Island declared war on Estalia following an incident on one of their citizens. The war was marked by large and disruptive obbybombings in Estalia’s holdings in 0,0 and Icenia, along with an unsuccessful but intrusive campaign in Pavia. A third front also occurred in Blockchainistan after accusations from Titan Industries of aiding Rhode Island. Rogue raiders associated with Rhode Island also roamed the newly-launched server, making the war’s effect felt throughout every nation. On the morning of September 17, CivMC admins announced they banned numerous accounts associated with Rhode Island, declaring their actions to be detrimental to server culture and long-term growth. Shortly after this announcement, a coalition of fighters from all across the server sieged and begun to break the Rhode Island vault, not before minor skirmishes occurred. Blockchainistan soon fell a few days later. With coverage from multiple newspapers such as the Lambat Post and Pavian Tribune, the war has been one of the most reported in Civ history. From the Featured ArticleThe Forum for International Diplomacy (FID) was an intergovernmental organization on CivClassic, founded in late 2020 during the Infinity War, and disbanded later that same year. The FID was founded by The Commonwealth, Mount Augusta, Icenia, Yoahtl, Holy Jaded Empire, Gabon, Gensokyo, and the CCCP. The FID aimed to foster international diplomacy, develop friendly relations among nations and overall, bring the international community together. “The Forum operated on a consensus-based model, with a particular focus on promoting and supporting dialogue between its members.” Free discussion was encouraged by the FID, its members permitted to call for a meeting at any time concerning matters of international importance, with the meetings overseen by an impartial team of moderators. The FID’s end ultimately came down to its member nations not foreseeing the amount of bureaucracy needed to establish a solid foundation for such a forum, nor for carrying out the goals they wished to accomplish. With dwindling interest, an unstable foundation and the community’s general consensus on United Nations formations on Civ, the forum disbanded. Though the Forum is one of many different attempts of UN formations on Civ, it has generally been regarded the furthest attempt to bring an international coalition of nations together. The idea of a server-wide UN is still an idea that is passed around but generally disregarded. (Full article...) |

From the Featured ArticleThe Great Overland Railway’s iteration on CivClassic was an international rail line that connected many of the major cities and nations on the server. Created by Yoahtl (CivClassic) in 2018, its initial stretch from its allies in the NCA to Mount Augusta was monumental for its time. From its namesake, the line was an overground route, unlike the vast majority of rail lines on the server. The railway has not been without controversy; Mount Augusta and the Holy Jaded Empire were wary of northern expansion as neither preferred to host foreign infrastructure in their territory. During the Infinity War, a trap was constructed under the railway by Mir to capture NATO fighters, a move that has been widely panned by SATO and Yoahtlan allies. Although development was paused during bgbba’s ban, extensions northwards to Icenia and south to Laconia were constructed by the server’s end in 2021. Upon its creation, the line routed players automatically using Snitches; when RailSwitch became available, it pioneered the use of the plugin to route players. Today, a second Great Overland Railway is currently in construction on CivMC, currently stretching from Lambat, Yoahtl, and Lusitania, with plans to extend westward. The construction of the railway and the surrounding movement inspired many nations to rethink their transportation infrastructure and shift their rails aboveground. (Full article...) |

From the Featured ArticleThe Great War was a war in late 2020 on the server CivRealms 2.0 between the coalition (Carbon, Northern Defensive Pact and Rhodesia) and the USA, which was a coalition of former enemies (notably Blackwater, Olympia, Chungus and later Savaguard). The War started following the obbybombing of the trade city CivCorp, and the following fallout developed into an all-out war between the bombers and their allies and much of the rest of the server. The conflict also spilled over into the New World, with several bombers seeking to form a new state in the isolated shard, starting the Barbary War. The war saw several major vaults fall, starting with the incomplete Varathian and Bloom vaults, the Napistan vault Daybreak (in which Carbon's leader, Convoy, was pearled) and eventually the Yggdrasil vault Asgard after a prolonged two week siege. The fall of Asgard was devastating to the allies, losing many pearls and most of the pearls they'd obtained in the defence in the failed retreat to the megavault Heaven. The war directly led to the collapse in activity on the server, due to a large number of combatants being pearled as the war developed into a stalemate with only bots remaining active. During the war, admins also made controversial decisions that changed the outcome of the war, including banning Citadel bombing for a short period, creating a "King of the Ashes" rule, adding a small chance to instantly kill a player following the fall of Asgard, and banning of most of the USA. Following the war, the server's activity never recovered, with most players returning to Civclassic or joining CivUniverse. (Full article...) |

From the Featured ArticleBloom is a group of players that originated from RebirthCraft, and first joined the Civ Genre on CivClassic. Settling in the -,-, their town building theme often pulled from Parisian influences and featured a government consisting of democratically elected Members of Parliament and a Prime Minister. During the Infinity War, Bloom was kicked from the UDF after Columbia caught them playing games with NATO. This resulted in Bloom moving to CivRealms, and in 2021, handing the ownership of the state over to Icenia. Once on CivRealms, Bloom existed as an entity within the nation of Carbon. There was nothing as significant as the two previous cities due to the limited time and resources on the server, but was still able to build a trenched city with an accompanying vault. After the death of CivRealms, Bloom remained stagnant until the release of CivMC. In later months, Bloom consisted of the core members from its towny and CivClassics days. Bloom is a group that consists mainly of buildfriends and grinders, and their playstyles reflect that make-up, resulting in the government being less democratic and more assigned. Today, Bloom exists as a state of Icenia. (Full article...) |

From the Featured ArticleYoahtl’s iteration in CivClassic was a nation focused on commercial trade and infrastructure and culture throughout the iteration and the quadrant. Initially founded near Doom City, the country eventually moved to an area to the southeast of The Commonwealth. Following the Somber War, they became a cultural powerhouse, organizing the First Olympics, becoming a critical part of SATO, and constructing the Great Overland Railway across the server. Despite this, issues arose around leadership and toxicity, with SATO falling apart following continued problems. However, in 2021, after bgbba was unbanned, Yoahtl provided support during the War of the Coalition and the Infinity War by joining the UDF. The country was well known for its capital city, New Yoahtl City. Focused entirely around a deep trench that surrounded the city, its tightly-packed urban planning philosophy, along with promoting security alongside commerce with its various shops within the city, made it an incredibly successful and competitive trading hub on the server. Throughout the map it also continued to construct the Great Overland Railway, spanning three quadrants and numerous countries and cities. In the late days of the server, the country annexed many of its neighboring countries and allies, including Vinland, Okashima, and Resimere, due to inactivity. Today, Yoahtl plays with many of its UDF counterparts in the SEC on CivMC. (Full article...) |

From the Featured ArticleBrewery is a plugin present on Civ servers, best known for enabling players to make creative drinks for others. Originally, Brewery was added as a comestic plugin on Devoted and became a staple on Civ servers, with GreatLordOz and RektTangle both contributing to the brews list. Due to its popularity, it later returned on CivClassic and CivMC. Unlike potions, brews are almost always utilized as cosmetic and not used for PvP purposes. They are usually sold either in dedicated breweries and or given out during serverwide events such as the Olympics. Brews can be made by making special recipes by fermenting specific items in a cauldron; these recipes are usually secret, forcing brewers to experiment with different items. However, brew recipes could be given out by the configuration maker or admins, by either clues or by specific recipes, such as those given to nation leaders. After fermenting their concoctions, brewers usually age their brews to make their recipes more potent. Brews, like in real life, also cause effects to their players in game, from nausea to ‘vomiting’ and ‘passing out’. Brews have become a staple of server culture in the game, and while sometimes overlooked, have reinforced the cultural economy on the server, with nations like Lusitania being best known for their brews. From the Featured ArticleEmpty Promises was a Civ magazine that highlighted articles, news, columns, interviews, cartoons, and other affairs related to Civ. Occasionally published by Dr_Oracle throughout the later years of Civcraft and in CivClassic, it was frequently marketed as "Civ's longest running newspaper/magazine/bad joke". Its main selling points were its high effort to design along with its commitment to investigative journalism, generally well received by the community. It often tackled challenging subjects, such as Nether Factories drama and recovery efforts during the late years of the Titan and HCF wars in Civcraft, and featuring or interviewing figures like sintralin and bgbba during the Somber War giving both perspectives of the war's outbreak. Empty Promises was unique as it was one of the only fully compiled, true-to-its-form, and sometimes open-sourced Civ magazines; many Civ newspapers today only focus on current events and rarely run interviews, op-eds, features, or showcases about items that had little to do with current events. Dr_Oracle has since gone inactive, although occasionally played in the Augustan Federation in its later days. (Full article...) |

From the Featured ArticleVarkonia’s iteration on CivClassic 2.0 was a country focused on foreign security and internal builds. Founded following the Somber War in 2018, they initially overclaimed territory held by Alpoko. Following the resolution of those claims, they eventually merged and incorporated Gabon into its territory. They became one of the major countries in the creation of the United Northern Congress (UNC), an alliance that stretched much of the major nations in the northern half of the server. However, following incidents in Mount Augusta and the Infinity War’s outbreak, the UNC fell apart and instead formed the Entente among other allies which fought against NATO. The country had a robust constitution, legal system and law structures. Although a constitutional monarchy, the country’s senate proposed nearly 200 bills. The country was also known for its massive builds; the country’s signature tower at their town hall granted them entry into the Order of St. Marcus a few weeks after the country’s inception. Varkanos, the country’s namesake, was also known for posting elaborate memes based on movies on the r/CivClassic subreddit. Varkonia were also known for seamlessly adding defense systems, including vault construction, despite the high build quality of their own country. Today, many Varkonians are part of Volterra, while many Gabonians are part of Pavia. (Full article...) |

From the Featured ArticleThe Battle of Lusitania was a military incursion and invasion of Lusitania during the War of the Coalition. After a series of obbybombings across the server hit Coventhia, Lusitania moved in to help out its friends; previously the country had known the obby bombers were based nearby. After increased Coventhian activity in the area, the obby bombers, known as Ransakistan, threatened Lusitania with invasion if they were caught trying to stop them. Lusitania responded by coordinating with Coventhia and Yoahtl helping form what would be called the “Ok Bomber Coalition”, consisting of SATO, Entente and UDF fighters, along with others from Mir and a myriad of independent parties. A state of emergency was declared by the country on December 11, accepting that anyone who entered the territory would be subject to being pearled. Eventually, a Ransakistan vault was discovered in the border of the Holy Jaded Empire, dubbed the Swimming Pool, close to Lusitania, and was broken only a couple days after the state of emergency. Several players from the Coalition stayed behind in Lusitania to clean up grief. The battle was the climax of the War of the Coalition and was the only military conflict that occurred within Lusitania’s history. Upon discovering that Ransakistan was supported by NATO countries, focus shifted towards ending the Infinity War. (Full article...) |

From the Featured ArticleThe Battle of The Crucible was a major vault attack during the Infinity War. After Columbia discovered that NATO officials had insided the country and significantly griefed their vault in an attempt to take control. Entente and UDF fighters rushed to the vault to defend it from an incoming attack later that afternoon, as NATO attempted a retaliatory attack. Unlike most vault attacks, NATO officials began their offense at bedrock level, working their way inwards. At the onset, only eight defenders were at the vault at the time, but fighters from Mir and later most Entente countries helped defend the vault. Several NATO attempts at breaking through defenses were made but had stalled. A fatal mistake by Bob_The_Builder allowed Entente forces to gain the upper hand; he was pearled after being discovered behind enemy lines. NATO officials eventually retreated after this occurred. This event arguably marked the turning point for the war; although the Siege of Columbia and Valyria continued, NATO fighters began to burn out due to continued attacks which would lead to the end of the Infinity War within a few months. From the Featured ArticleThe Workers' Party (often abbreviated TWP) is a communist and far-left aligned political party spanning multiple servers on Civ. Originally founded on the Golden Creeper server in Leningrad, when the nation moved to New Leningrad on Civcraft 2.0, the party came along with it. It eventually morphed into other forms on Civcraft 3.0 and Devoted before being refounded by SandFalls in CivClassic 2.0 in Mount Augusta, where it played a major role in its controversial elections, creating the Confederation of Socialist Augusta and taking hold of the Confederation of Cities, Communes, and Protectorates, a nation composed of all the primarily communist nations on the server. Worker’s Party members consisted of any voting member in Mount Augusta with interest in Communism, with its main goals being nationalization, anti-nationalism, anti-imperialism, worker unity and vanguardism. The Worker’s Party also contributed to builds in its territories, including a large stadium in the southwest of the city. Today the Worker’s Party’s successor is the Mery Horde on CivMC, however Worker’s Party communes exist in Pavia and Danzilona. (Full article...) |

From the Featured ArticleSouthshire is a democracy that originated on CivClassic. Its namesake came from its location south of Westminster in The Commonwealth, and in its early days, was considerably involved in its foreign and domestic affairs, playing a minor part in the Somber War. The country eventually seceded to Yoahtl before becoming independent following the war. Despite a minor incident in the Infinity War with the LSD in the Entente-Laconia War, the country remained on good terms with most nations, including joining SATO and the UDF, developing close relations with Icenia in the late days of the server. Although the country was relatively small in size, its main city, Southend, had detailed builds in its small peninsula located south of Westminster. The country hosted a world-famous brewery, public library, and eccentric large builds, such as Melman the Giraffe. It also included other areas like the Nudist Beach Resort and Oakhurst. Today, Southshire’s triumvirate plays on CivMC ironically located in the north part of the map. (Full article...) |

From the Featured ArticleOtonabee, a nation founded in March 2020 on CivRealms 2.0, was founded by a group of newfriends who constructed the city of Lynn in the desolate southwest region of the server. The city quickly became an important center for trade and transportation due to its proximity to the New World and their rail connections to Olendor and SPQR. Known for their lighthearted approach to diplomacy and politics, Otonabee quickly gained international recognition as talented builders and grinders. Prior to the Second Hell War, Otonabee and their larger neighbor Varathia formed a union, creating the Otona-Varathian Empire. Additionally, they claimed part of the New World as the Gallagher Territory and joined the Far Seas Alliance. Otonabee witnessed heavy fighting in both Hell Wars due to its location between the Hell and Ascension vaults, resulting in temporary occupation during the Second Hell War. Following the war, Otonabee and Varathia joined Carbon, which would pull both nations unwillingly into the Great War following the bombing of CivCorp. (Full article...) |

From the Featured ArticleThe You're a potatoe incident was an event on CivClassic 2.0 that turned everyone on the server to a potato. The outbreak started in Lambat with Metriximor and banyough rotating a seemingly perfectly fine “potatoe”. The situation became hilarious when Metrximor went into third-person, which resulted in a hilarious point of view. Due the hilarity and subsequent popularity of the potato, it became so revered that an entire religion surrounding the potato came around it, with Metriximor and banyough becoming known as the “High Priest of the Potato”. CommradePotatoe was also involved as the holy vestige. A cult emerged as the religious people became “potato bombing” different cities for their holy crusade. Eventually, because the potato bombing became so deadly as they purposely only used poisonous potatoes for their crusades that the admins had to delete all potatoes from the server as a whole.
