From the Featured ArticleVintage Civ is a Civ server based in Vintage Story. It is notable for being one of the few Civ servers to be in a game that is not Minecraft. Although it itself a derivation and expansion of AbjectPovertyCraft, another Civ server based in Vintage Story that introduced their version of ExilePearl, VintageCiv expanded upon the concept significantly in scope. It introduced Citadel-like reinforcements and the concept of Snitches into the game, both of which would eventually be adopted into the main game itself. The initial iteration of VintageCiv launched in early 2022, during a break between CivClassic and CivMC’s release, which was praised for its features had mixed reception. Its second and longest iteration so far, 2.0, was introduced in May 2022 and saw more emergent gameplay than its prior iteration. Although its admins have announced they would be working on a third iteration in 2024, no progress or release date have been announced as of yet. (Full article...) |

From the Featured ArticleAdina was a country on CivClassic that had a significant Spanish, Moorish and Caribbean theme that extended to their builds and government. Originally setting within Vitelian territory in 2018, the country became independent following its collapse and developed its own government. Despite a tumultuous political history with raiders, attempted coups from countries such as Astonia, and monarchical struggles for power, the country continued to develop various builds by the time ImperatorMendes came to power as president. By the late stage of the map, the country was part of the Conference of Eastern States and became a territory of nearby Caledonia. The country was unique in that it migrated from various settlements, from Antigua, a typical village that was Caribbean themed, to settling nearby Tobago y Corona and finally developing Adina City, which developed on a large cliff and adopted a Arab and Moorish-like architecture style and was the hotbed of Republicanism in the country. Along with major churches and seats of government there, it became a minor economic hub, with many shops and rails there making it a small hub in the sparse southeast of the map. Although there was no notable successor, it is one of the few successful instances that survived through multiple rounds of political turmoil on Civ. (Full article...) |

From the Featured ArticleThe New World was a continent on CivRealms 2.0 that acted as a map expansion to the server’s world. The second expansion after the Thomas Archipelago, the New World's land was hotly contested as negotiations for the continent’s land began prior to the expansion’s launch. Its layout was similar to the initial continent, being a world-painted map retrieved from public sources, and held a variety of climates including jungles, volcanoes, and deserts. The New World was located 20,000 blocks roughly southwest of CivRealm’s main continent, and several existing nations sought to make colonies on the continent, among those being the Imperial Federation, Norlund, SPQR, and Otonabee. Although initial disputes over land were made, it eventually became a relatively peaceful area with much of the conflict remaining on the main continent. A rail was also made for easier access to the continent, which was slightly faster than travelling by boat. Despite its hectic launch, the New World’s expansion is one example of a successful map expansion integrated into its environment. (Full article...) |

From the Featured ArticleThe Valex Corporation was a consultancy company on Civcraft 2.0. Founded from refugees from SPQR, the company was uniquely founded as a company but acted like a country that held territory. Within a few months of its founding, it gained mass revenue through material sales, but quickly switched their focus to investments. The country was a member of the North Eastern Alliance, bordering neighboring Iria. Their capital, Remnant, was a cyberpunk-themed nation with a layer-like structure, inspired by dystopias like Blade Runner. Their pioneering shareholder system allowed any shareholder to a dividend in their revenue, and the company obtains profit through plot sales as well as consultancy services for developing nations. Although their CEO, Logic_Man still plays today in Mount Augusta, their company’s structure has been lifted into other Civ-based companies in CivMC such as the Gabon Corporation and the Monument Group. Haha, yes, you have been tricked by the April Fool! Send this jest to your acquantainces to totally April Fool them!
From the Featured ArticleThe Order of Brothelyngham was a gang of men who, in mid-14th-century England, formed themselves into a fake religious order in Exeter, Devon. Styling themselves as theatrical players, they terrorised, kidnapped and extorted the locals. They may well have been satirising the church, which was commonly perceived as corrupt. The group appears to have named itself after a non-existent place, "Brothelyngham". The name was probably meant as an allusion to the Order of Sempringham, which was known to enclose both monks and nuns on the same premises. Members of the Order of Brothelyngham dressed as monks. They supposedly elected a madman to rule them as their abbot, possibly from a theatrical stage, and bore their ruler aloft before them in a mockery of a bishop's throne. As one of the few such gangs known to modern historians, the order is considered significant for what it suggests of Anti-clericalism activities and attitudes in England during the period. From the Featured ArticleThe Fempire Union is a nation spanning three iterations, going back to Devoted 2.0, focused on a democratic centralist government. The iteration on CivMC sits in the snowy half of the continent of Impendia. After continued conflicts in their region throughout the first year with the Bergburg–Fempire War, The Generic War, and Gang Shi, they founded the BUILD alliance with Mount Augusta & the Imperial Federation. Although themed after the Soviet Union, their philosophy is also focused on inclusive policies and unity. As a result, their builds range from a style of constructivist to Baroque, with quirky structures and a colorful palette dotted in between. They also focused on infrastructure with long ice roads and rails to connect their country to other nations, particularly during the wars. They also participate in the International Hockey League, competing as the Fempire Punks. To this day, they continue to be a bastion of friendship and inclusivity across the server. From the Featured ArticleThe Kingdom of Fish was a nation on CivClassic, founded as a successor state of the Kingdom of Wyvern on CivUniverse, and Kraken and Nymph on CivClassic. Aimed as a friendly, casual and buildfriend nation, the country hosted a number of builds in its hilly coastal setting that made it a quintessential fishing village. The country’s leaders were made up of players from the succeeding nations. In its early days, the kingdom made friendship treaties with Acadia as well as holding a fish festival during July of 2021. In summer 2021, council members the__druid and JayTeeR raided Acadia’s vault and were pearled by Kayla in the The Crucible vault. Seekinq used the opportunity to push the nation’s policy closer to a build nation, along with joining the Plus-Minus Concordat to promote defense and a stronger economy throughout the region. Today, most residents of Fish are now members of Griffin on CivMC. (Full article...) |

From the Featured ArticleSPQR’s iteration on CivRealms 2.0 was the continuation of the long-running SPQR state, a Roman-themed nation committed to being reflective of Roman architecture and political system. The nation was established after their iteration on CivClassic was obbybombed by NATO forces during the Infinity War, and was aided by Alexandria to claim land on the continent; they would go on to be a faithful ally throughout the iteration. Setting on a mesa, the country would eventually prosper as they built a Temple of Saturn which harked back to their roots on Civcraft as well as a tribute to their CivClassic iteration. By late June 2020, the country was thrust into the First Hell War following discoveries of bastions placed under their territory by Hell. Although they were late entrants into the war, the country joined the allies on the final vault push later that summer. Other notable events included expeditions to the New World, and encountered conflicts with the Imperial Federation and Norlund. As CivRealms activity declined, they eventually returned to CivClassic and reclaimed their land following the conclusion of the Infinity War. (Full article...) |

From the Featured ArticleThe Mount September Ice Road Conflict was an incident between the UDF and the Augustan Federation over defensive infrastructure on CivClassic. The dispute started over an ice road built during the War of the Coalition that overlapped plans for a vault in Mount September. This was combined with other grievances from Icenia over the community of Mount September, particularly minemaster933. A court ruling in Mount September in late August found SirTwiggles of Imperial Truidence guilty for trespassing on NebulaSSR’s bunker on Icenia’s ice road nearby. UDF interpreted the ruling as being unable to use the ice road without consequence, and sought military action. After a continued public argument against UDF and Augustan Federation officials, several fully armed UDF officials appeared at Nebula’s bunker, ready to attack. Although they continued to confront each other, no PvP conflict occurred. Both sides made peace and players from Kallos and Mount September helped clean up the damage. The conflict came at a time when the last major war (the Infinity War) had concluded a year before; Punitive measures were placed on Mount September citizens, and started the general unravelling of the Augustan Federation's outer allies such as Lambat. The image that resulted from the conflict remains an iconic picture of Civ, and the incident itself shows a success of diplomacy on the brink of a possible war between major powers. From the Featured ArticleAirhaven was a town in CivClassic located in the southwestern part of the map. A snowy, tranquil retreat along the busy HITS corridor, the country prided itself on its builds and peaceful policy. It was built on top of a cave and in extreme hills on purpose to discourage farms ore excessive mining from being made and to focus on builds. The country continued maintaining a peaceful policy throughout its lifespan, enjoying benefits from peace initiatives such as the Order of the White Lotus and healthy relations with nearby Resimere, Pacem and later Yoahtl. The country benefited from tourism heavily due to healthy reviews from other players, similarly compared to other tourism-focused nations like Lusitania. However, it fell inactive shortly after the Somber War and the country was annexed by Beretia in 2021, but did not change the area. The leader of the country, CaptainKlutz, eventually became a superfriend in 2021 and focused on content creation efforts for Civ afterwards. The legacy of the country lives on in its effort to maintain peacefulness deliberately by its nation placement. (Full article...) |

From the Featured ArticleExilePearl is a Civ plugin that allows players to exile and imprison other players within a ender pearl, limiting their gameplay to another dimension, usually the End. Originally known as PrisonPearl when introduced during Civcraft, the plugin is known as the main mechanic for player-enforced justice within Civ. In order for players to continue keeping a player bound within the pearl, fuel is needed, usually within the form of essence on modern Civ servers; otherwise the player is freed from the pearl. Devoted 3.0 introduced an alternative called ExilePearl, which the plugin is named after today. It provided an alternative means of punishment by not allowing players to be present within a certain radius of their pearl, although upgrading pearls to proper prison pearls were allowed. Exiling was adopted by later servers like CivClassic, it was not a popular mechanic, and the prison mechanic has been the sole force. CivMC pearled players play in the Nether rather than the end in previous iterations; due to its survivability some portals, cities and emergent gameplay has formed among pearled players. Although the plugin has been controversial especially in large wars, it is well-known among Civ players as an effective means of player-delivered justice. (Full article...) |

From the Featured ArticleNipplerock is a recurring country in Civ run by Gantoe. The country claims itself as a "powerful threat", but it is mostly known for its intentionally jokey nature as a country. Its leader is well known for self-destructing TNT in large populated areas and showing as propaganda. Its continued longevity and commitment to "terrorist" acts have been lovingly joked throughout the Civ community. The country has a longstanding feud with Hexcorp since Civcraft 2.0 after being defeated in their home turf during the Battle of Talahassee; continued campaigns against the organization continued when it was part of The Commonwealth during CivClassic. The country has also "defeated" other nations such as Tierra de Conciencia and Pacem in past iterations. Although Nipplerock does not currently hold territory on CivMC, Gantoe continues to carry out TNT raids in populous cities. (Full article...) |

From the Featured ArticleMercutio is a nation founded on CivMC known for its exquisite builds, community, and integration into its jungle environment. Self-described as a “newfriend nation”, the country was founded the autumn after CivMC’s launch. Although the countries lies near Icarus, Icenia and Kaowta, the country has seen very little direct content and has developed a peaceful culture well-suited to their tropical land. They have also contributed to humanitarian aid with the clearing of a water wall of grief. Due to their peaceful policy, the country developed its own unique culture. The country’s main capital, Malina has an architecture style that is distinctly grown in with the jungle landscape within the Northwest region. Their participation in the Olympics netted them many medals at the Shiro-Swisston Olympics, while they continue to participate in the server’s hockey league. They have friendship agreements with several countries and are well known as peaceful mediators for conflicts across the server. (Full article...) |

From the Featured ArticlePeter5930 is a Civ player mainly known for playing within The Commonwealth during Civcraft 2.0 and CivClassic. During the early days of Civcraft 2.0, he faced many conflicts with Carson as well as being a double agent during the HCF War. When he returned for Commonwealth’s iteration in CivClassic, Peter was pearled by Lexington during the Somber War due to continued grievances following the HCF War. He took on the mantle of King of the Commonwealth following brinton bestowing him the title. During his exile, he built the End Citadel which provided respite for imprisoned players in the end. Although he was released and spearheaded renovation efforts in Westminster, Commonwealth’s capital, he remained a stoic figure and slowly became inactive. However, his slow disappearance despite his position of power granted several players, led by reffelruz of Meditat, to idolize him and founded a religion around him. The Commonwealth’s revival on CivMC established this philosophy with the Declaration of the Eternal King. The religion with scripture, construction of temples, and the coronation of Bowilla as king following in his footsteps, have continued to this day. (Full article...) |

From the Featured ArticleThe Kingdom of Amicitia, better known as Amicitia is a nation on CivMC focused on diplomacy and spreading kindness across the server. Initially beginning as a tribe in the early days of CivMC, they moved and developed several islands in the Southern Sea, which would become the Lux Capital. They brokered friendly relations with Mount Augusta and became one of the founding members of the BUILD alliance. Despite their involvement in minor conflicts with Nassau and playing a supporting role in the Doom City Conflict, the country has enjoyed a continued peace. Although the country has a King and elected Prime Minister, the country has a tight-knit playerbase. The country also produces a large amount of literature, ranging from The Sapphire Wave, the country’s official media service, to the creation of several in-game books. The Lux Capital and its associated islands have a steampunk and Victorian build style, as well as continued builds and development despite their small land footprint. The country continues to be active and be an excellent diplomatic partner. (Full article...) |
