Geography of CivMC

CivMC is divided into four quadrants, as well as six major continental landmasses. There are also a number of named seas and regions.

Quadrants

Since the map is a circle centered at 0,0 it is convenient to split it in four quadrants:

-,- or Northwestern quadrant
+,- or Northeastern quadrant
-,+ or Southwestern quadrant
+,+ or Southeastern quadrant

The + and - signs refer to the sign of the coordinates in each quadrant: for example, the X,Z coordinates -123,4567 would be in the -,+ quadrant.

While this method does not work well for places close to 0,0 or the horizontal/vertical axes, it is easy to understand and has been in use for years.

Semicircles

Similar to the Hemispheres of Earth, Semicircles can be used to refer to two adjacent quadrants combined. For example, the Western Semicircle refers to the -,- and -,+ quadrants.

Landmasses

Central Archipelago

The Central Archipelago is made up of the Estalia mushroom island of El Caro, and the cluster of jungle islands under the control of Estalia.

Due to its position in the Middle Ocean near 0,0, it is the only major land area falling into none of the six continents.

Western Continent

The Western Contient, which is as of yet unnamed, stretches across the -,- and -,+ and taking up much of the Western Semicircle. It is estimated to be the world's most populous continent, and owing to it's huge size is highly diverse in biomes. Notable nations on this continent include Estalia, Icenia, Pacem, and the Commonwealth. It has also been noted for being the primary site of three major wars—The Generic War, Butternut-SEC War, and the Grasslands Gambit. The regions most populated city is Icenia City.

Karydia

Karydia is a largely jungle-dominated continent with two sovereign nations native to Karydia, Mercutio and Vanani, alongside territories from external states like Salerno (Royal Karydia), Mayguow (IF), Karydia Imperial (IF), Icarus (Icenia) and Reggio (Mercuito). It is the western-most continent on civ, bordering the Western Continent in the north, with the Karydian Sea and Southern Ocean adjacent its coastline. It is often regarded as one of most sparsely populated continent on civ.

Stercus

Stercus^{[citation needed]} is one of the world's smallest continents, located entirely withing the southern -,- adjacent to the eastern shores of the Western Continent and southern Northlandia. Much of the geography is mountainous, with vast forests occupying the coasts of the continent. It is home to the former nation of Columbia and the old home of Kallos. This continent is notable for having several densely populated cities that have been left abandoned due to past heavy conflicts occurring within the region.

Northlandia

Northlandia is located in the northern -,-. It is the most sparsely populated of the world's six major landmasses. It is dominated by cold, frosty biomes and large mountainous areas.

It is home to the North Pole, a popular tourist destination which is located within the nation of Winterbourne who welcome explorers throughout the arctic nation. There is a basic wooden shelter with crafting and cooking facilities as well as an open chest with supplies left for travelers. Many signs are left by explorers to mark their trip to the North Pole.

Impendia

Impendia, or the Northeastern Continent, is located in the northern part of the +,-, bounded on its west by the Middle Ocean, to the east by the Fareastern Ocean, and to the south by the Lyrean Sea.

The Impendian Assembly was created by most of the nations within the continent. The countries of Amboise, New Jersey, Dirt, S.P.Q.R, Cascadia, Jorvik, Fempire, Baile, Vinland (CivMC) and Vanani are located on the continent. The continent was hope to erstwhile nations of Cordoba, whose land has now became a newfriend reserver north of Vanani.

Eastern Continent

Variously called Totec (in Yoahtl), Oriente (in Lusitania), Vinteria (In Pavia), mehylorfro (In djani'hweh), Dornyn (in The Khaganate), and Kerote (in Ila'Kyavul). Eastern Continent stretches across the lower +,- and the northern +,+. It is the second largest continent by land mass and is incredibly diverse. The northwestern portion of the landmass is known as the Lyrean Subcontinent. the Eastern Continent stretches across the lower +,- and the northern +,+. It is the second largest continent by land mass and is incredibly diverse. The northwestern portion of the landmass is known as the Lyrean Subcontinent.

Alenarith

Alenarith (in the common tongue), Chouwa (in Gensokyo), Kova (in Truidencia) or simply the Southeastern Continent, takes up much of the +,+ and comprises 16% of CivMC's total landmass, with temperate biomes in the north and cold biomes in the south.

Alenarith was named by the Southeastern Continent Naming Convention, which included representatives from Mount Augusta, Dalgon, Crystalis, Doom City, Aldenfult, Gensokyo, Cortesia Del Mar, Danzilona, Wolken, Nara, Zatoka, and Truidencia, on June 17 2022. For a short time some members dissatisfied with the SCNC opted to use the name "Nanto" for the continent, though it enjoyed much less recognition.

In the case of Truidencia and Gensokyo however the names Chouwa and Kova (the latter of which is subsequently derived from the first) are used as their official names for the continent, each recognizing the other as simply variants of the same name.

Deluvia

The Continent of Deluvia takes up the southern -,+. Much of the population are in the Eastern side of the continent, meanwhile Western side of the continent are sparsely populated but growing slowly. It houses nations such as Imperial Federation, The Hyperborean Confederation, and Great Western Bay. Currently the Imperial Federation takes up more than 80% of the continent, making the server’s only continental sovereign. Its name was decided upon by the heads of states of the nations in the Southwest Forum discord.

Bodies of Water

Northlandic Ocean

The Northlandic Ocean is a deep cold ocean and Northern most ocean on the map. It stretches from the Moloka islands to the farthest North of the map along the East coast of Northlandia and West coast of Impendia.

Middle Ocean

The Middle Ocean^[1] is a major body of water stretching north-south across the entire map. Many nations border it, namely Estalia, which controls 0,0. Merilde Bay and Trelli Bay are both part of this ocean, with the former bordering Pavia and the latter bordering both Pavia and Griffin.

Lyrean Sea

The Lyrean Sea^[1] is an inland body of water and transcontinental region between Impendia and the Eastern Continent. Nations in the Lyrean Sea include Griffin, Amboise, Moloka, Pavia, Mery, and Lambat.

Most of the nations on the Lyrean Sea are members of the Lyrean Community.

Stony Sea

The Stony Sea^[1] is an inlet of the Middle Ocean that borders Varathia, Lambat, Accra, CivMarket, Estalia's El Caro, Mount Augusta, JMQN Island, and Iria.

Fareastern Ocean

The Fareastern Ocean^[1] is a body of water between Impendia and the Eastern Continent. It borders the Fempire Union, New Jersey, Amboise, Mythos, and SPQR. It is connected to the Middle Ocean via the southwest by the Lyrean Sea.

Medi Sea

The Medi Sea is a body of water between the Eastern Continent and Alenarith. It borders Lusitania, Ila'Kyavul, Iaumea, Danzilona, the Arsenio Pact member state Wolken, Gensoyko, and Truidencia. Its name is derived from its predecessor on CivClassic.

Despite its name, the Medi Sea is arguably an ocean as it is comparable in size to other oceans and is not enclosed by land at world border.

Most if not all nations that border the Medi Sea are members of the Forum of the Medi Sea.

Karydian Sea

The Karydian Sea is a body of water located between the continent of Karydia and the greater Western Continent. Several nations are located along the shores of this sea, including Mercutio, Pacem, the Commonwealth, Salerno, and Zatoka.

Southern Sea

The Southern Sea is a massive ocean in the western hemisphere that sits north of Deluvia and south of the Western Continent. It stretches from the southwestern world-border to the Leona Sea. The ocean is home to many island nations such as the Pride Isles, Grenada, Nonju, as well as a few exclaves and territories from nearby nations.

Like the Medi, the Southern Sea is also arguably an ocean, due to its size and borders.

Leona Sea

The Leona Sea sits west of Dalgon and the Leona Bay, south of the Leibniz Confederation. It connects the Merediem Sea to the Deluvian Ocean.

Meridiem Sea

The Meridiem Sea is a body of water located between Deluvia and Alenarith. It borders the Imperial Federation, Anisso, and Venne. At one time, all states bordering the sea were members of the Meridiem Compact, from which the sea takes its name.
