Cortesia Del Mar (CivMC)
Cortesia Del Mar or CDM, is a medium-sized nation on CivMC. Cortesia Del Mar is a constitutional presidential republic, located around 4900, 2700, occupying land on Alenarith and on the Eastern Continent. It borders various nations in its 2 sizeable mainland claims, those being Westesia and Aurellia. In Westesia, Cortesia borders Danzilona, Doom City, and shares a unused bridge to Mount Augusta. In its Aurelian Claim, it borders Iria, Ila Kyavul, Calw, the Reunan Union, and Lusitania. It is a member of the March Pact, Independent Southern Powers and Security Enhancement Coalition.

History
Pre-Civ History
Cortesian pre-CivClassic history consists of four years of Cortesian existence on various non-Civ servers, particularly Towny and nations servers. While these experiences had a profound impact on Cortesia Del Mar[citation needed], understanding them is not essential to understanding Cortesia Del Mar on CivClassic.
CivClassic History
Cortesia Del Mar first established itself on CivClassic, its first Civ server, on January 2 2021. On this server, Cortesia occupied a modest claim in an underdeveloped region of the +,+, where it constructed the futuristic city of New Sol. Cortesia was a founding member of the DUMP, the CES, and the AF-CES Partnership; it was also allies with all iterations of Eddie Murphy and a member of the Korell Alliance, at the times when these polities existed. In October 2021 Cortesia ratified its Provisional Constitution, and completed a vault hole in which no vault was ever constructed. Cortesia Del Mar remained relatively unchanged on CivClassic through to EOTW in December 2021.
CivMC History
Early History (Pre Constitution, June 4th - October 8th)
Establishment
Cortesia Del Mar settled its final location within the first hours of CivMC SOTW, after it was discovered by then-new Cortesian citizen CommradePotatoe. The nation quickly established lines of communication with its southern neighbor Danzilona and western neighbor Doom City, with whom it established specific borders on the server's second day. Cortesia formally announced its claims on June 6th (the server's fourth day), in cooperation with Mount Augusta, the Arsenio Pact, Aurellia, Ila'Kyavul, and Danzilona. Cortesians would soon build a wooden (Later uprgraded to obby) bunker underground called the Togo bunker named for one of its players, Togo. This bunker has served as a main operating base of Cortesia since SOTW.
Soon after settlement, EngineeringBean would lay roads in the Northeast of Westesia. Around this time, a player by the name of 84841 would build the town of Witda. Around June 25th, CommradePotatoe and Fierysomething3 would build houses in the North Hades Islands. Despite this early construction, political divisions would prevent the unnamed capital from being built. On July 8th Cortesia Del Mar would unite with its Neighbor across the Santiago Straits under the treaty of Santiago. This merger was a result of the friendship between Monterrey, Krowatia and Cortesia established on Classics.
Stagnation Period
Following the initial hype, not much would happen on the live server
On August 2nd, after over a year of writing, IceCarim would publish the completed draft of the Constitution. Because of the Constitution's size, not many players engaged with discussion surrounding the constitution. Due to the server wide war happening at the time, and the lack of discussion, ratification of the constitution was held off and not much was done. Eventually though, the Generic War would end, and some discussion would occur, so eventually the provisional Secretariat, the then executive body of Cortesia, would finally open ratification of the Constitution to the public, and soon thereafter it would be ratified on October 2nd.

On October 1, 2022, CDM was briefly incorporated into the Free Danzilonan Republic after being unilaterally annexed by the First Consul of Danzilona, Des23, during her final hours in office.[1] CommradePotatoe was named Consul of the new province and a flag was created for it. This annexation was tacitly accepted by the Cortesians until CommradePotatoe declared CDM's independence once again on October 2, 2022 and re-instated its pre-annexation status.
End of Stagnation Period
One player, 84841, voted against the Constitution and set off a bit of an argument, eventually culminating is his departure from Civ. As a result, his small town of Witda would then be transferred over to EngineeringBean.
The most immediate goal of the Secretariat following ratification would be its own dissolution. A party would be held in the Interim Capital of Santiago with players from around the world attending. Each of the Secretariat members would give a speech before stepping down and resigning. Yodabird19 would also speak for the first time during the event, shocking many players. Vedd would be appointed Chief Justice to oversee the first election. Finally, President IceCarim would step down.
Post Constitution (October 8th onwards)
New Government
Presidential Election
With the provisional government dissolved, both a legislature and executive branch would have to be set up. Two tickets would be filed, IceCarim-yodabird19, and CommmradePotatoe-alzuBloxxer11 (JohnCats) for the first election. IceCarim would win the election 57.1% of the vote, and CommradePotatoe would take 42.9% of the vote.

Executive
The executive branch of Cortesia is the Cortesian Cabinet, headed by the the President of Cortesia Del Mar. The President and Vice President are both elected into their positions by the general populace of Cortesia. The first version of the constitution subscribed to an unlimited term model, where a President would serve indefinitely until voted out. Prior to IceCarim's depature from the presideny, an amendment to the constitution was made that created 4 month long terms and regular elections, which is currently the norm. The President and Vice President may select any citizen (if willing) to serve on the Cabinet. The positions in the Cabinet are as follows:

The legislative body of Cortesia Del Mar is the National Forum.
Judiciary
The Common Court and the Supreme Court are the two courts in CDM. The Common Court being the lowest and the Supreme Court being the highest.
Politics
Cortesia is best known for its usual debate and discussion, which are considered a core part of Cortesia. Two major issues permeated the early political sphere of Cortesia, construction of the capital city, now named Concord, and the Constitution, with the former being the more decisive of the two.

Cortesia Del Mar is the 6th largest nation on CivMC with 5 major geographical regions. They are as follows:

Westesia
Westesia was Cortesia's first ever claim on CivMC. Westesia is dominated by a central plains region mainly used for agricultural farms, such as Oak, Wheat, and Carrots. It is home to the city of Concord and North Hades Island Chain. As of December 19th, Westesia possess an incomplete rail network with service only being provided to Danzilona.
Concord
The city of Concord's name was selected by vote in the Cortesian discord. Concord was one such proposal made by Yodabird19, and it ended up winning the vote. Concord is the Capital of Cortesia and the seat of its government. Concord's construction has been a topic of great concern and debate for Cortesia. Currently construction has begun on the city's Constitution square and Witda.
The North Hades Islands
Named by CommradePotatoe, the North Hades Islands are home to a nether portal and a few scattered homes.
Aurellia
Originally founded as an independent nation, Aurellia is the other major portion of CDM. Home to the city of Santiago, Aurellia is the largest region of Cortesia. The coastal region in the east is flat and temperate. Moving further west, a hilly region divides easter Aurellia from west. In the west, various hotter biomes define the region, like deserts and mesas.
Santiago
Santiago served as the capital of Cortesia until the establishment of Concord. Santiago is the largest city in Cortesia.
The Chocolate Islands
The Chocolate Islands are a chain of three islands located in the +,-, south of Lambat. All three of the islands are in jungle biomes. The farms located there provide necessary resources for Cortesian EXP production. The islands themselves have seen little development past their intial claiming, but some pathways and buildings are on the islands.
The Cortesian Ice Shelf
The Ice Shell would be claimed fairly early on in Cortesia's existence. BrickwallGaming orginally moved to the region with the intention of building a town called Frostmire, but nothing ever came of these plans and the region would be left uninhabited. Iceroad construction to the region has been underway to facilitate independent EXP production.
The Melian Forest Colony
Orginally claimed by Aurellia in the early days of the server, the Melian Forest Colony would be incorporated into Cortesia following the Santiago Merger. As of the 21st of December, no development has occurred within this region and it sits unused. There have been talks of ceding the land to another nation but so far not much has come from that discussion.

Cortesia Del Mar is a member of the March Pact, a trilateral mutual defense pact with its neighbors Aurellia and Ila'Kyavul.
Cortesia Del Mar is a member of the Independent Southern Powers an alliance between the nations of Nara, Venne, Ila'Kyavul and the Arsenio Pact.
Cortesia Del Mar is a member of the Security Enhancement Coalition alongside Icenia, Southshire, Kallos, Arsenio Pact and Icarus.
Cortesia Del Mar is a member of the Alenarith Forum.
Cortesia Del Mar has a direct mutual defense pact with the Arsenio Pact.
Cortesia Del Mar has a direct mutual defense pact with Sovia.
Cortesia Del Mar is a member of the Transport Union nether gate rail and infrastructure network.
