CivClassic is split into four quadrants whose names are based on their geographical coordinates.

Some players have also named specific landmasses, seas and regions based on cultural significance to their nations.

Quadrants

The four quadrants

Since the map is a circle centered at 0,0 it is convenient to split it in four quadrants:

  • -,- or Northwestern quadrant
  • +,- or Northeastern quadrant
  • -,+ or Southwestern quadrant
  • +,+ or Southeastern quadrant

The + and - signs refer to the sign of the coordinates in each quadrant: for example, the X,Z coordinates -123,4567 would be in the -,+ quadrant.

While this method does not work well for places close to 0,0 or the horizontal/vertical axes, it is easy to understand and has been in use for years.

Semicircles

Similar to the Hemispheres of Earth, Semicircles can be used to refer to two adjacent quadrants combined. For example, the Western Semicircle refers to the -,- and -,+ quadrants.

Geographical Areas

-,- quadrant

Medi Sea

Map of the Medi Sea
The Medi Sea is a body of water that borders Lusitania, Atlantis, Varkonia, Gabon, SPQR, Lumière, and the now defunct Tungsten, Grand Imperium, Namhan, Highrock, Leuven and Tierra de Conciencia.

The Council of the Medi Sea oversees, organizes and maintains the area around the Medi Sea as well as its cultural inheritance.

+,- quadrant

Lewis Archipelago

Mostly unclaimed, the Lewis Archipelago is situated between Acadia, Mir, The Empire, Gondolin, and more.

Lake Elizabeth

Currently located entirely within Acadia, formerly owned by Based:Mir and Chanseatic State.

Nuevo Luzon

A hilly and temperate landmass once occupied by the Free States of Appomattox. It is now home to a couple of newfriend nations, Lambat and Potistan. The name "Nuevo Luzon" was applied retroactively by the Lambatan Government for convenience in cartography and navigation. It is named after the island of Luzon.

-,+ quadrant

Greater Mount Augusta

Map of Greater Mount Augusta as of early 2021
The region of Greater Mount Augusta is a region that includes the territory previously held by Mount Augusta and land connected to it. The region includes Mount September, The CSA, South Augusta, Sealand, Wesbury, Venne, New Sovia, and a part of Albion, as well as some unclaimed land.

+,+ quadrant

Golfo de la Paz

Map of Golfo de la Paz
Golfo de la Paz, or "the gulf of peace", is a body of water in the central +,+. Named by an agreement between Monterrey and Cortesia Del Mar, the gulf borders Monterrey, Cortesia Del Mar, and CCCP Oblast Maltovia.

Great Nether Island Archipelago

Map of the Great Nether Island Archipelago
The Great Nether Island Archipelago lines the +,+ world border, occupying much of the vast ocean which defines the smallest quadrant. Consisting of 40-50 (depending on what counts) distinct nether islands, the Great Nether Island Archipelago is the largest nether island archipelago on CivClassic. Parts of it are owned by Yoahtl (Vinland and Laconia), Hjaltland (Mt. Doom), The Commonwealth (Kraken), Pacem (Fortuna Colony), the Defense Union for Mutual Prosperity, Imperial Truidence (Daedalus), Cortesia Del Mar, and Caledonia.
