The Imperial Federation Secession crisis was a civil conflict on CivMC in the Imperial Federation beginning in early July of 2023 with a constitutional crisis starting in early August. It resulted in the the resignation of multiple government ministers, and the secession of multiple states.
The Legal Background of the Constitutional Crisis
The second parliament of the Imperial Federation and King_Cupar Chancellery began their term of office on July 26th 2023. Parliamentary terms in the Imperial Federation sit for a maximum of 40 days. The constitution additionally stipulates a 24 hour minimum candidacy period and a 48 minimum hour voting period. This meant that parliamentary terms finished August 6th. The latest elections could be held with continuity of government was August 3rd. The King of the Imperial Federation is constitutionally compelled to carry out their duties.
By constitution and convention Imperial Federation, Parliamentary elections are overseen by the Monarch in cooperation with the Lord High Councillor, and three randomly selected senators who are not candidates in the election. Per the Imperial Federation Legal Code, the King may appoint the Lord High Councillor as Interim Chancellor during the election period for the purposes of stability and neutrality. Though the Interim Chancellor is encouraged not to make significant policy changes.
The Secession of CCTT, Pride Isle, and Thorian Conflict
The Imperial Federation Constitution passed in May of 2023 would directly lead to the secession of CCTT from the IF on 8 May 2023. General Secretary Plupsnup would cite centralization, and transition to a Westminster style government as reasons for seceding. Deteriorating interpersonal relations would lead then deputy Chancellor King_Cupar to pearl Plupsnup.
Unionist Party MPs would vote to remove 1 of only 2 opposition MPs Argonite of Surmadri on the 6th of July for failure to disclose his positions in the government of Truidencia. The vote was widely seen as a partisan attempt to remove an opposition member, as no law requires disclosure of foreign ties.
s0uthw3st would have the state of Freeport secede from the Imperial Federation on 9 July 2023.
On the 12th of July, tensions between the Kingdom of Thoria and the IF states of Southseasia and Surmadri would arise due to Thorian Raiding of Southseasia. This led to the pearling of MrCooCooMan by Blu9710. Negotiations between Thorian leadership and IF government advisor HassDaMahn would not be successful at resolving the situation.
Citizens of the Walled City of Surmadri would begin to protest against the IF government and King_Cupar Chancellery citing a lack of de-escalation, with a hostile state on their borders. This led to calls for independence amongst many in Surmadri and heightened scrutiny of King_Cupar's policies from citizens of Southseasia. King_Cupar would move quickly to rectify the situation, negotiating a detente between Thoria and the IF satisfying all parties involved.
A New Imperial Federation Constitution
Around the 18th of July, King_Cupar had drafted or begun to draft a new constitution for the Imperial Federation based upon Meritocracy instead of democracy. He instructed Minister of the Interior therisenundead to ask state leaders their opinion on this idea. The idea received mixed feedback. So Chancellor King_Cupar began working on a compromise constitution between his meritocratic ideas and thejmqn's democratic ones.
At this time Southseasia leadership attempted to sign an independent treaty with the Kingdom of Thoria. Such an agreement was a legal grey area under the IF constitution. Southseasia leadership including then Minister of Infrastructure Potato_Duke entered into negotiations with Chancellor King_Cupar for increased autonomy for the state. Negotiations were unsuccessful leading to the resignation of Potato_Duke as cabinet minister under protest of government policies.
The Anor Londo X Coup
On the 28th of July defense minister dcruzyx would be added to a discord chat of ALX citizens. dcruzyx and the Cabinet would allege that ALX citizens were planning to overthrow the democratically elected IF government in a military coup. ALX leader joelthatroll would later argue that they were merely venting frustrations about an ineffective and corrupt IF government.
In response to the alleged coup, IF government ministers would undertake a variety of controversial measures. They would dissolve the state of ALX, declare the area "demilitarized", revoke the citizenship of the alleged conspirators, obby bomb the ALX vault hole, pearl joelthatroll, and put bounties on the remaining alleged conspirators. Chancellor King_Cupar would argue that any trial should be delayed until parliament passed a new constitution drafted by himself and thejmqn.
A Failed Convention and Election Preparations
King Jalhf I would begin preparations for Imperial Federation Parliamentary elections as constitutionally required during the week of July 24th. Chancellor King_Cupar would strongly oppose any elections prior to the passage of a new constitution. Chancellor King_Cupar would attempt to host a constitutional convention on Sunday July 30. By all accounts this was not a successful meeting. Low attendance due to IRL illness and travel would mean several individuals with contributions would be unable to attend. Various officials felt that little real discussion was had during the meeting and would argue that additional discussion of the constitution was needed.
The Secession of Southseasia
The Kingdom of Southseasia was one of the first states to actively express disagreement with the government of the Imperial Federation and Chancellor King_Cuppar centralization path.
While the Kingdom of Southseasia did not seek independence, it aimed for more autonomy, arguing that the state is being neglected and does not benefit from further centralization around the Deluvian states.
When the new constitution was pushed by the government, Southseasia demanded an article guaranteeing their autonomy as well as universal right to self determination for all states.
Chancellor King_Cuppar and citizen of Southseasia Potato_Duke negotiated in an attempt to find the middle ground. Negotiations failed, when King_Cuppar was exposed to be spreading disinformation about the negotiations, as well as stating that Deluvian states will give Southseasia an ultimatum to drop its demands or be kicked out of the federation.
The Kingdom of Southseasia would secede from the Imperial Federation on 1 August 2023. Citizen Potato_Duke and Chancellor King_Cuppar kept the discussion opened and both agreed that the Imperial Federation should let Southseasia go or face Unilateral secession. Under a threat of unilateral secession, Chancellor King_Cupar would quickly grant them a secession vote in the IF Parliament.
Attempted Elections and Constitutional Crisis
Despite protest by Chancellor Cupar, King Jalhf I and ComradeSankara would immediately move to prepare for parliamentary elections on 3 August citing the constitutional requirements of their positions. Despite calls from thejmqn and other members of parliament, Chancellor King_Cupar would refuse to cooperate with new Parliamentary elections. Instead, insisting that any elections should wait until after the passage constitution drafted by King_Cupar and thejmqn.
Chancellor King_Cupar would argue that many states would secede if a new constitution was not passed prior to elections. When pressed on specifics the Chancellor would decline to specify which states until asked many times.
On the morning of August 4th, Lord High Councillor ComradeSankara would attempt to hand in his resignation to King Jalhf in protest of the lack of new elections and other actions taken by government ministers. King Jalhf would decline ComradeSankara's resignation asking him to stay on in an attempt to re-establish stability over an increasingly chaotic IF. King Jalhf would ask ComradeSankara to serve as a neutral Interim Chancellor during the election period as allowed by IF law. ComradeSankara would agree on the condition that he be allowed to resign and retire as soon as elections finished. Jalhf would then ask King_Cupar to step aside as Chancellor for the duration of the election period citing instability, raw emotions, and imminent secession of multiple states.
Chancellor King_Cupar would refuse to step aside. King_Cupar would accuse Jalhf and ComradeSankara of attempting to coup his government. With the time period for elections having passed, and a government impasse, the IF was now in a state of constitutional crisis.
In an attempt to compromise, Jalhf would propose amending the constitution to extend current parliaments term by 20 extra days. If this passed a parliamentary and senate vote, Jalhf would consider that people wanted more time to discuss and pass a new constitution prior to elections. If not, then this would indicate that people wanted immediate elections prior to the passage of a new constitution. King Jalhf made a public announcement calling on IF citizens to make their opinions on this issue known to The UP parliament majority would initially agree to such a compromise opting to extend the parliamentary term and pursue more discussion of the constitution prior to passage.
After private discussion, the Chancellor King_Cupar and UP MPs would instead attempt to pass the new constitution draft late early in the morning on August 5 2023.
The Resignation of ComradeSankara and Secession of Grenada
After seeing the attempt to pass a new constitution after Jalhf's attempt at compromise and additional accusations of treason, ComradeSankara would resign from all government positions and renounce IF citizenship in protest of the King_Cupar and The UP's actions. Grenada would immediately and unilaterally secede from the IF on 5 August 2023. ComradeSankara would release a statement citing government misconduct, accusations of disloyalty, and chaotic atmosphere as reasons for independence.
Secession of Surmadri
Surmadri would also secede from the Imperial Federation on the 5 August 2023 following a Surmadri citizen council (SCC) gathering to discuss the event of Grenada's secession. With unanimous agreement of the council, Surmadri made it's plans to depart from the Imperial Federation official. Despite the obvious implications that this choice violated the national constitution, Chapter 5, section 1-3 of the Surmadrian proposal constitution was put into effect citing a maintained attitude of neutrality through the Federation Collapse Clause, a clause in which voids Imperial Federation obligations under the pretense that a collapsed state is foreseeable, and the ambitions of Surmadri are at risk. Various other states began exploring secession shortly afterwards.
The Status of The Imperial Federation
After the secession of Grenada , the proposed new constitution had the support of 6 of 7 parliament members and a plurality of remaining senators. It was almost certain to pass and come into effect. Despite the imminent passage of their constitution, King_Cupar, HassDaMahn, dcruzyx, are working to form a proposed new nation: Asgard. Asgard would occupy IF territory consisting of IF states: Midgard, Joseon, and the IF Capital of Imperia. The secession of Imperia from the IF is unconstitutional. Asgard is not internationally recognized at the time of writing this article.
Vermont additionally seceded from the IF claiming the territory of the former states of Vermont, Gotland, and Regentsburgh. However Spoonce, one of the former leaders of Gotland claimed the state of Gotland for Rivia.
Remaining IF government officials have sustained their claims over a majority of IF territory. Current IF States as of August 30, 2023: Esberg, Halland, Nalora, Godhaven, Regentsburgh (Disputed), Meriecta, Lovira, Slum Town, and Slothistan (Formerly Anor Londo X).
Adoption of the First Constitution of The Imperial Federation
After the secession of multiple IF states, King Jalhf would start a direct election for chancellor for the first time since May 2023. Chancellor candidate ImmediateDescent from Halland won the election, making him the first Halland citizen to become the IF Chancellor. ImmediateDescent's first act as Chancellor was to drop the new constitution King_Cupar and TheJmqn wrote and instead revert the constitution back to the first constitution, also known as the Pre-May Constitution. It gained overwhelmingly supports across the nation for this re-adoption of the first constitution of the IF. Many complained that the parliamentary system made a party, like Unionist Party, become the nation's one-party system and even eliminate any oppositions. Some of the IF Senators swore to never adopt the parliamentary system again.
Joseon Disputes
After the Asgard seceded from the IF, Joseon got annexed by Asgard suddenly. This led to the King and Chancellor reached out to the Asgard officials to begin negotiation regarding Joseon. A resident and farm maker Potato_Duke did not approve Asgard's action and requested negotiations to be held concerning the land and farm administration.
The Imperial Federation and Asgard held negotiations, which due to high tensions kept progressing slowly. Asgard increased the tensions by unilaterally placing city bastions on the farms owned by the Imperial Federation, which in response placed bastions on Kalengrad farms claimed by Asgard.
Negotiations between Asgard and the Imperial Federation concluded with Treaty of Joseon. Asgard was given control of the land in Joseon, while the Imperial Federation retained its control over the farms in Joseon. Both nations promised to remove the bastion from the farms. The Imperial Federation removed Kalengrad bastions soon after signing of the treaty, while Asgardian bastions remain in place months after the deadline.
New Callisto and Readmission of two former states
After the loss of Imperia, CapianColton sought to build a new capital city for the IF but under direct federal government control rather than a state. So he spearheaded in the location and theme- by choosing old military district for new capital city to be built on due to the strategic location as well as being more central location nearby every cities and towns in the eastern Deluvia. And choosing steampunk as the capital city's new theme to stand out of every cities in the server.

On October 2023, the Imperial Federation saw a boom in population, economy, and activity. Nalora, Regensburg, Esberg, and Sneg would be the most active states of the month as well as more IF states on the way to be more active in the coming weeks. Vouxia and Vermont rejoined the Imperial Federation as well as Imperial Federation recovered lost territories from multiple declaims caused by King_Cupar in the Summer of 2023. Imperial Federation now regained more than half of the Deluvia continent, and the IF citizens initiated colonization campaign in former Otonabee lands. Asgard never seen any activity throughout late August and October until beginning of November.
Result of the Secession Crisis
Imperial Federation recovered nearly all of the lost lands; Asgard disbanded on 13 December 2023. Full list of results throughout months;

- Imperial Federation peacefully retook all of Asgard lands including but not limited to; Joseon, Imperia, Vanaheim, Santiago, and Kalengrad, ending the Secession Crisis on 13 December 2023
- Imperial Federation now cover more than 75% of the Deluvia continent.
