From the 31st of December 2022 to the 2nd of January 2023, citizens of the Imperial Federation held their fourth federal election to elect the Chancellor. The Imperial Federation’s fourth Chancellor election is by far the largest election in the Civ history with 84 voters total[1].

Incumbent Chancellor Spoonce decided not to run for a second term, leaving the floor open for candidates. The race would contain four; Jhalf (the eventual winner), S0uthw3st, Wilwithonel and CoolChacha97.

No debate could be held in time. However, in it's place, Deputy Chancellor Jmqn held a Q&A open to the public. Many questions were asked during it, not just by citizens but also by foreigners, including Icenian President ChrisChrispie. The public nature of this Q&A would contribute to the Chacha-Slide Scandal.

Candidate Policies

Jahlf would run as a fairly moderate candidate. Like every winning candidate before him he ran on behalf of continued infrastructure development and newfriend recruitment. Additionally, he supported the popular monarch King Cupar, and a moderate foreign policy retaining current alliances and avoiding anymore war panics.

S0uthw3st, previously the Chancellor during November, would again put their hat in the ring. All policies from their prior Chancellery were retained, including infrastructure development and possible expansionism. The most notable addition to their platform was their new party, representing a cult worshipping a Fennec Fox deity. This, or their somewhat marred foreign record, may have contributed to their eventual defeat.

Wilwithonel ran as a self-described 'Libertarian Monarchist'. They also explicitly ran to fill out the ballot. A minor scandal would present itself when player janetblackquill leaked supposed screenshots showing Wilwithonel aiding an anonymous foreign power in harming the IF. The leaks would notably include Discord's light mode. They were revealed by janet herself to be fakes though. janetblackquill had also attempted to run for Chancellor, as an Orwellian candidate in support of social surveillance. However, irrespective of this policy's popularity or unpopularity amongst the citizenship, she did not meet the requirements to run for office.

CoolChacha97 would run as a candidate heavily focusing on military reform. He advocated for purchasing more gear, enlisting and training more soldiers, and constructing a vault. However, the majority of his candidacy would be consumed by the Chacha-Slide Scandal. To attempt a brief summarization, the scandal would involve prior comments made shortly after the Four Hour War advocating obby-bombing. Along with this were many statements calling for other aggressive foreign action. During the election practically all candidates would condemn him for this, and tried to explain the seriousness of obby-bombing. CoolChacha97 would double down on his beliefs and stand by them. In response, a Denouncement was organized by player Pandastical, containing signatures of government officials and all other candidates. CoolChacha97 would post this on the subreddit which, along with leaks and the Q&A being public, would bring the scandal to an international level and threaten war.

Effects of the Election

Independent of the Chacha-Slide Scandal, the election was fairly ordinary. It did show the first hints of possible Unionist-energy, with some calls made for a possible union with Icarus. However this quickly took a backseat and had little impact.
