Exchange

An exchange is the general term for a shop that allows players to buy and sell specific goods without directly trading them with each other. Exchanges are usually built with many different prices, so that the price fluctuates depending on supply and demand. Many exchanges use compacted items to make large scale trading easier. On CivRealms, the largest exchange is in CivCorp, and has exchanges for 15 different items.

How they work

Exchanges are usually constructed as a wall of chests. Each chest is a shop chest with an option to buy from the exchange item or sell to it. Usually the prices for buying from, and selling to, the exchange are slightly different, so that the owner of the exchange profits every time someone trades in the exchange. Each chest has a different exchange rate between the two items in the chest. Usually, the chest in one end of the wall will have the highest exchange rate and the chest in the other end will have the lowest.

In each chest, there is a limited amount of the items that are exchanged. When enough people buy in a chest, the exchange runs out, and they will be forced to buy at a slightly higher price in the next chest. This same concept applies to selling to the exchange. When enough people sell to the exchange chest, the exchange runs out of stuff to buy the items with, and people are then forced to sell at a slightly lower price. In this way, the price will always balance at around the exchange rate which people are willing to buy and sell the items for.

CivCorp

On CivRealms, CivCorp offers the largest amount of different exchanges. The exchanges are located in plot E5, in the center of the city. All CivCorp's exchanges use XP as their currency, which is then traded for other items. Civcorp takes a small cut of all trades in their exchanges. The price of each item in the exchange is posted daily in the #exchange-updates channel on the CivCorp Discord.
