After some scouting and briefly setting up in [[Topher3001|Tophopolis]], the city of Merthyr was founded on December 11, 2021. Keeping in line with their previous form of governance, Merthyr was originally founded as a socialist direct democracy. The city was named after the real-life [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Merthyr_Rising Merthyr Uprising], which is credited as the first workers' movement in history to use the red flag. The first week of its existence was relatively peaceful, with residents mapping their claims, building a canal, and large-scale farming typical materials for factories.
