Mainline server
A mainline civ server is one that is part of the sequence of servers tracing back to Civcraft, the original civ server. Mainline servers are characterized by providing a continuity of the civ community and culture. Generally, this means using a similar core set of plugins as the previous mainline server, having a significant portion of the civ community play on the server, and being a "spiritual successor" of the previous mainline server.
Generally, there is only one mainline server active at any given time. This means that it is always possible to trace a "lineage" from the current mainline server back to Civcraft.

The following are generally accepted as the mainline servers:

- Civcraft 1.0 (March 24, 2012 — April 26, 2013)
- Civcraft 2.0 (May 19, 2013 — January 26, 2016)
- Civcraft 3.0 (July 30, 2016 — October 1, 2016)
- Devoted 3.0 (September 17, 2016 — October 26, 2017)
- CivClassic 2.0 (June 2, 2017 — December 18, 2021)
- CivMC (June 2, 2022 — Present)
