Monaco was a small city-state in the heart of the ++ quadrant. It began as a small settlement with dreams of high-rises and vaults filled with diamonds, and would have likely succeeded if not for the state of its foreign relations. As a result, it was growing akin to a parasite on the Danzilonan nation. Monacans, while honest in their intentions, were treated poorly by Danzilonans and reciprocated the feelings. This grew over time and as tensions raised, the two states erupted in war.

Ultimately, Monaco was occupied due to the pearling of its leader and most of the city destroyed.

History

Founding

The City of Monaco was founded as a result of the mass exodus from the failed city of Stoneburrow. Stoneburrow treated its citizens poorly and as a result, one of its founders, Cheshirelulcat, and a dedicated Stoneburrow laborer, Thymos, decided to create their own city. It is located at +6700, +2900.

The Golden Age

Monaco was a highly industrious city, with huge potential. Notable businesses included Cheshire Law Firm, Monaco Muffins, and Thymos' Mining Enterprises. It had increased its CAI from 0 to 4.20 in only one month, on pace to outgrow any nation in the ++. It was gaining citizens by the week, and had gained a considerable amount of attention doing so. Monacos estimated worth sits around 20,000 diamonds at its highest point.

Danzilonan Conflict

One apparent issue with Monaco was the land it resided on. It gained de facto sovereignity by occupying what was apparently claimed as New Danzilonan territory, a small island off the coast of the Danzilonan mainland. Some Danzilonan citizens were extremely vocal about giving up what they felt was Danzilonan rightful land, despite the region being undeveloped and the projected rate of development to reach Monaco only in several years.

Monaco then made an official offer to claim more territory, this time on the Danzilonan mainland, for farm expansion. The offer was made to solidify the existing island territorial claims and to give Monaco a chunk of mainland for the sum of 150 diamonds. There was popular unrest in Danzilona over the agreement, but the transaction was completed, with Monaco paying the sum to the then most actual representative in NDZ, Mokuno. Danzilonans claim that the transaction was never completed, or that it was completed to the wrong entity, but nevertheless the deal was completed.

These issues, among many other minor ones, caused tensions to flare up. Danzilonans began griefing the property in Monaco, spamming reinforced signs all over town. Monaco responded by erecting a wall and clearing any previous structures within its borders. This caused an outburst of rage, with propagandists claiming that the buildings burned were Danzilonan property.

Eventually, due to a series of crimes committed by Monacan citizens and the leader himself, U3P forces gathered to challenge the Monacan forces. A short battle ensued after two random HCF raiders pearled the entire Danzilonan force. The Monacan army was able to kite the HCF, who initially chased the Monacan Army, but switched to attacking the Danzilonan forces when chasing the Monacans proved fruitless.

Over the next week, Thymos went on a massive pearling spree in New Danzilona, killing citizens and pearling them for sport, leaving pearls in furnaces, and unlocked chests. He avoided capture the entire time and managed to terrorize the city for a considerable amount of time. Cheshirelulcat attempted to get himself disassociated with Thymos and instead went on a tour of world, but was ultimately pearled while visiting the Commonwealth, twice.

The conflict has not been officially settled, with New Danzilona continuing to illegally occupy Monacan territory and refusing the recognize the sovereignity it deserved. No reparations have been paid from either party to either party in direct relation to this conflict.
