'''Laconia''' iswas a semi-active group of players that has spanned multiple maps since [[Devoted]] 2.0 in early 2016.
 
Their most important incarnation was founded in the first month of [[CivClassic 2.0]] in June 2017, when the Laconians constructed the fortress town [[Mt. Doom]], originally a set of stonebrickstone brick walls on a mountaintop that served to defend [[Yoahtl]]'s then-capital city, [[Axochitlan]], until Laconia declared independence. After tensions between the two nations rose to the point of [[Yoahtl-Laconia_Wars|war]], the Laconians captured Axochitlan. This forced the other half of Yoahtl on an exodus to the other side of the map, where they founded [[New Yoahtl City]]. Tensions and intermittent conflict between the sibling nations continued for several years until the [[Infinity War]], when Mt. Doom was destroyedcaptured by Coalition forces in January 2020 after a fivefour month siege. After peace negotiations that took over a year, Laconia's citizens were freed from [[Hjaltland]]'s vault and founded a new city on [[Doom Island]], to the east of [[Mount September]], where they remained peacefully until the end of the map in December 2021.
 
Due to their split with Yoahtl, the two nations ended up on opposite geopolitical axes, with Laconia signing an alliance with [[Lexington]], and Yoahtl becoming closer with Hjaltland, who were the early competitors for [[World Police|global hegemony]]. Even though Laconia consciously stayed out of the [[Somber War]], thereby escaping the destruction the other allies of Lexington faced after its final defeat, this early alignment ended up deciding Laconia's place in the geopolitical structure and the sides it took in future conflicts.

Born out of a shared hatred of the [[Pirates]], it was the fusion of several early-map groups, led by Vapin, Tofee_Dodger, [[FRESH_Candy]], and [[BuckyHD]], with [[ashnwill]] joining later. They were early allies of [[Agora]], who were later known on CivClassic 2.0 as Hjaltland (sort of). They formed the Conglomerate which fought the Pirates and [[Ascalon]] (led by Vicccyy and SirCrowley respectively).

This first version of the Laconian state on Devoted 2.0 was essentially ashnwill using the name, building a vault with Tofee_Dodger, [[Malen]], and [[Brocktree]], and attempting to make a preemptive power-play against Agora by invading the [[Semper Union]]. During [[CivTemp]], the group that formed the Revenants and Laconia did not play much, aside from BuckyBuckyHD playing apart of [[Yoahtl]]. During this time, BuckyBuckyHD further developed the idea of Laconia. After failing to convince Yoahtl to change with documents and reforms written by BuckyBuckyHD, and with the help of [[zachtack]], they began to write documents for Laconia for the anticipated 3.0, such as a legal document, charter, and plan of Laconia. Eventually talks began for Laconia to merge back into Yoahtl, but [[bgbba]], who was acting for St_Leibowitz, began to talk about forming a coalition between the two nations, or joining Laconia with Pumpkintown. After much time talking about a coalition it was revealed bgbba was unable to actually decide on this. This angered the Laconia leadership who viewed it as a waste of time.

Ongoing around this time was the Somber war, and due to Lexington having been aggressive, Laconia did not have to join in with the agreement, and were also told not to due to being so close to Hjaltland, who we made an agreement with not to get involved unless directly provoked.
