Introduction The Imperial Federation Secession crisis was a civil conflict in the Imperial Federation beginning in early May of 2023 with a constitutional crisis starting in early August. It resulted in the the resignation of multiple government ministers, and the secession of multiple states.

The Legal Background of the Constitutional Crisis The second parliament of the Imperial Federation and King_Cupar Chancellery began their term of office on July 26th 2023. Parliamentary terms in the Imperial Federation sit for a maximum of 40 days. The constitution additionally stipulates a 24 hour minimum candidacy period and a 48 minimum hour voting period. This meant that parliamentary terms finished August 6th. The latest elections could be held with continuity of government was August 3rd. The King of the Imperial Federation is constitutionally compelled to carry out their duties.

By constitution and convention Imperial Federation, Parliamentary elections are overseen by the Monarch in cooperation with the Lord High Councillor, and three randomly selected senators who are not candidates in the election. Per the Imperial Federation Legal Code, the King may appoint the Lord High Councillor as Interim Chancellor during the election period for the purposes of stability and neutrality.
