The village of Yurtstead is a small Mongolian-themed settlement located just outside of the city of New Detroit, an autonomous component of the Holy Krautchan Empire. While technically a fully-incorporated part of the city, the few inhabitants of Yurtstead largely go about their business ignorant of what goes on west of the Sanzu River, where New Detroit proper is located.

History

Establishment

Yurtstead was founded a few days into September 2014 by Grundeswegian settlers in the Gensokyo region. Built almost entirely by Satsuki_Kiryuin_, it was originally composed of a couple small yurts and a two-blocks wide gravel pathway.

Yurtstead Conflict

During the Yurtstead Conflict (known as the Second Battle of Riverford in the Danzilonan Federation), Yurtstead was invaded, and multiple minor skirmishes were fought in and around the village. As a part of the conflict, a Prussian building crew enlarged the settlement and built several new yurts. The inhabitants of Yurtstead therefore regard the conflict as having been, on balance, pretty great for them.

The Prussians also hoisted an oversized Prussian flag and constructed a large, but relatively useless, wall at the eastern bounds of the village, separating it from the lands claimed by Riverford. However, the wall has many sections missing and doesn't extend very far, making it more of a historical curiosity than anything.

Geography

Below is a map of Yurtstead and the surrounding regions, accurate as of the morning of 13 September. Hardly visible on the map, there are several treehouses along the highway between Yurtstead and New Detroit proper. On the other side of the highway is New Detroit's Woodfall District.
