Samarra

Samarra (Arabic: سامراء) is a city in the Islamic Sultanate of Istanbul and Samarra, just north of its sister city Istanbul in the +,+ quadrant. It was founded by SKNDR, the late Qadi (قاضي) of the city, and is currently administered by Qadi HavanaNights.

The city was built on the north side of the Arab Gulf (الخليج العربي) and is linked to its sister city of Istanbul via the Bridge of Faith (جسر الإيمان). The first official structure of the city is the Great Mosque of Samarra, built by SKNDR.

The city is divided into different districts:

  • - Masjid Samarra al-Kabiir (مسجد سامراء الكبير), "The Great Mosque of Samarra"
  • - Hay al-Sanaa'a (حي الصناعة), "Industry District"
  • - Hay al-Tajaara (حي التجارة), "Commerce District"
  • - Hay al-Thaqaafa (حي الثقافة), "Culture District"
  • - al-Hay al-Sakanii (الحي السكني), "Residential District"
  • - al-Hay al-Idaarii (الحي الاداري), "Administrative District"

History

Antiquity

The earliest signs of habitation in the area located around the north of the Arab Gulf stretches back to the first settlement of Istanbul in late May, during the Skepsian Caliphate era. The virgin peninsula was used as a prime sand-mining area during that time.

Refugees from Skepsian Istanbul

After the abandonment of Istanbul, some refugees migrated North into temporary caves in the mountains above Samarra. Recent archaeological digs uncovered the remains of a cave believed to have been inhabited by an unnamed refugee of Istanbul in August of 2013. Items found within the cave were reminiscent of the early Kattar-Istanbulite culture of Istanbul, making the theory of Ottoman refugees from Istanbul inhabiting the area plausible.

Augustan influence

Much later, after the abandonment of Istanbul, Mount Augusta was formed to the south. As the city slowly expanded and the demand for sand grew, a few sand mining expeditions were launched to the area, although it was too far North for the city to ever set up a sand mining colony there. During this time, an Augustan citizen set up a large sugarcane farm along the coast.

Istanbulite influence

After the War of Independence of Istanbul, the area started to become visited more frequently by Istanbulite citizens, especially sand miners. As the political influence of the Sultanate grew, the area slowly fell under the wing of the political entity, and eventually was claimed as "Istanbulite territory", due to it being the only desert area close to the city not claimed by either Mount Augusta or Gensokyo.

Incorporation into the Islamic Sultanate

After discussions among the leadership of the Islamic Sultanate and the final approval of Sultan GTAIVisbest, Samarra was founded by SKNDR in the desert north of Istanbul across the Arab Gulf. The town began as an effort to solidify and formalize their claim to the valuable deserts by a de-facto build claim. Since SKNDR was spearheading the founding of the town, he was appointed Qadi of the nascent industrial city. The town has made steady progress in growth since then, with BrotherKantor joining the city in mid-October of 2014.

Samarran golden age

By early October 2014, the city was flourishing under the leadership of SKNDR who had attracted many newfriends to settle and work on projects in the area, as well as befriending the capitalist factions of the ISIS government. The city boasted around 9 active residents around this time, and quickly overtook the capital, Istanbul, in terms of population.

Decline and inactivity

During early November, Qadi SKNDR became inactive from Civcraft. Without his guidance, and with central authority putting little to no effort in Samarra, the population slowly left the city and Samarra became inactive. Some buildings sustained minor grief over the months which was not repaired.

Economy

The economy of Samarra is dependent on the exporting of desert products and by-products, including sand, sandstone, glass, cactus, sugarcane, maps, and religious books.

Development

There has been steady development in Samarra, with the construction of factories, a silo, a small market, aqueducts, the University of Samarra (جامعة سامراء), a public mine, a quarry for cobble extraction, as well as sugarcane and cactus farms.

Institutions

Desert Conservation Bureau

In the face of rapid exploitation and sand/sandstone extraction, the Desert Conservation Bureau (DCB) was instituted by Sultan GTAIVisbest and Qadi SKNDR to help preserve the pristine nature of the Great Desert. The DCB oversees all major projects in the desert to ensure a viable and sustainable balance between the environment and the Islamic Sultanate well into the future. To help offset over-exploitation, citizens are recommended to mine sand from the sea floor in conjunction with the desert to spread out their ecological footprint.

When it does come to mining sand/sandstone, the policy is as follows:

  1. Individuals are required to mine sand/sandstone in the northern and western portions of the Great Desert
  2. When exposing large amounts of stone underneath the desert, individuals are required to do one of the following:
    1. Cover the stone with a surface layer of sand/sandstone/sandstone slabs
    2. Donate 10% of total sand/sandstone mined to the Islamic Sultanate if you are a resident/citizen; donate 50% percent of total sand/sandstone mined if you are not a resident/citizen.
  3. Any and all persons failing to abide by the aforementioned regulations is subject to a citation; if individual refuses to pay citation, a bounty will be placed on their head and they will be forced to appear in court.
