The City of New Augusta
New Augusta is a city-state located in The Metropolis. New Augusta is a relatively old city, with history dating back to Civcraft 1.0. Its origins lie in the New Augustan Secession of 1.0.
History

Sometime during early March 2012, the mountain that would later become New Augusta was stumbled upon by player GTAIVisbest, having just spawned on the server for the first time. At the time, a small wooden building, called Fort Saucy, had been erected by SomethingSaucy, leader of Lazuli, a large city that had been founded earlier and was situated two thousand blocks East of the mountain. GTAIVisbest commenced renovations on the small wooden fort, and, keeping the name, decided to found a small city with his friend Nzucco who also joined the server at the same time. The small city was christened Fort Saucy Village after the fort, And Nzucco and GTAIVisbest declared themselves leaders of the new duocracy.
A week after the original founding of the city, GTAIVisbest and Nzucco encountered the local natives of the region, a Spaniard PVP group whose leader was called Darhen. Initially, tensions flared as Darhen mistook the new settlements on the mountain for a Lazuli expeditionary force, and ordered his clan to fire upon the city with flaming arrows. GTAIVisbest, who had been struck by an arrow, shouted to the clan that they were not hostile, and soon both parties calmed down. Extremely happy with the discovery that GTAIVisbest spoke spanish, the Darhen clan decided to supply Fort Saucy Village with elementary weapons, materials, a large amount of smoothstone, and protection. Relations were bolstered as GTAIVisbest often invited Darhen to dine with him in his newly renovated house, Fort Saucy itself. Darhen also helped the city with securty, as can be seen here.
By May 2012, the city was growing rapidly, as many new residents were trickling in, both from new random-spawns and established players visiting the area and deciding to stay. Fort Saucy Village's isolated area yet plentiful resources made it a prime area for builders to conglomerate, and the architecture of the city was focused around the hill which the city was built on. New houses were being built every day to accomodate the influx of new players, and, the city being founded upon a vanilla chunk, mining was a higly rewarding activity and also attracted many miners to the city.
Fort Saucy Village seems to have reached it's peak in early May 2012, boasting a total of 10 active players and a large amount of high-rises, appartments, and houses. The Darhen clan had become tributaries to the Fort Saucy Village government and slowly had become incorporated into the Fort Saucy Village standing army.
On the 13th of May, 2012, the city was almost completely destroyed by an unknown griefer raiding party. Signs around the city claiming that the "Trash Can Militia" was responsible for the massacre were found, and the suspects quickly claimed responsability. The government of Fort Saucy Village quickly collapsed as GTAIVisbest, Nzucco, steawofheaven and other government members and IRL friends decided to evacuate the city and retreat to Hoyt, a friendly city near Fort Saucy. The remaining population quickly evacuated the region, included the disbanded members of the Darhen clan, most fleeing East to Lazuli, others fleeing to Hoyt with the majority of the government. Nzucco promptly quit the server, GTAIVisbest relocated to the thriving city of Columbia during its peak, and the remaining members either quit or diluted into the other cities on the server. Fort Saucy Village became abandoned and destroyed, again fading out of public eye.
Almost a year later, during early February 2013, Mt. Augusta, then ruled by GTAIVisbest, decided to open a mining colony in an untouched vanilla chunk to bolster it's revenue. GTAIVisbest decided to found the colony in the remains of a Fort Saucy military bunker located 100 blocks away from the destroyed city. The first colonists of the new mining colony quickly happened upon the destroyed city and began renovating it, removing some of the grief and removing most of the large lava puddles. The colonisers decided to incorporate the destroyed city into the mining colony, and lightning1789 lead some efforts to remove areas that were buried in lava and cobblestone.
The first inkling of secession and independance that the colony had was a month later, when player lightning1789 caused a stir.
GTAIVisbest, mayor of Mt. Augusta, began to spend more and more time in the mining colony helping to renovate the destroyed city. After renovating Fort Saucy, Nzucco joined the server again and began helping out on the building push in the colony. The city rapidly grew again, and a large amount of buildings were built as most of the grief was cleared. It is rumoured that Nzucco renovated up to 70% of old Fort Saucy during the mining colony days, the rest renovated by the colonisers and GTAIVisbest.
Over the course of his mayorship in Mt. Augusta, GTAIVisbest and his close group of followers became more and more disgruntled with the state of the Mt. Augustan beurocracy. They claimed the state of Mt. Augusta was very restricting and no progress was being made, and that the Trading Company still controlled most of the city even if they had been voted out of office democratically. GTAIVisbest and a group of supporters seceeded from Mt.Augusta to create New Augusta in hopes of having a simpler government structure (New Augusta Manifesto). The land that made up New Augusta was the mining colony and Rue d'Alger, a street in West Augusta where properties of many original secessionists were located, including the lavish house of GTAIVisbest. The declaration of independence immediately began the New Augustan war of Independence, as the newly formed New Augustan Prot Police, the military force of New Augusta, began erecting barricades in the streets separating Rue d'Alger, now New Augustan territory, from Mt. Augusta. Over a period of three hours, however, a combined Trading-Company (the de facto military force of Mt. Augusta) and World-Police force amassed around the new state of Mt. Augusta and it's enclave in Mt. Augusta, eventually culmulating in the Battle of Rue d'Alger where pro-Augustan forces attacked the New Augustan barricades and fighting erupted on the streets. Eventually, the pro-Augustan forces were routed by the Gondolin-backed New Augustan army, and the following morning the crisis was resolved as New Augusta officially released it's enclave on Rue d'Alger back to the Mt. Augustan government, and a mass exodus of the New Augustan population commenced towards the former Mt. Augustan mining colony, now the new capital of New Augusta.
GTAIVisbest quickly created a new government, a monarchy, and declared himself king. In the early days, the government was reshuffled often, and ultimately the population settled on a loose Republican Dictatorship with GTA as leader and player KiraOrLight acting as close advisor to him.
Fort Saucy itself, before this having been GTAIVisbest's colonial house, was renovated into the New Augustan presidential palace, adorned with ornate gold, iron and redstone blocks, originally revenue from the mining itself. Named "Azidi Palace", the Islamic-themed building towered above all other buildings at the very peak of the mountain New Augusta was built on.
Due to a large majority of the New Augustan citizens being peaceful builders, the city spent much more money on building, public works and landmarks than self-defence. As a result, the city became extremely condensed and utilized the real estate on the mountain to it's fullest potential, creating a large network of underground catacombs and markets, tunnels and passageways while the surface was covered in large skyscrapers and historic houses.
As leader of New Augusta, GTAIVisbest continued to frequently engage in foreign diplomacy outside of the city. Cultivating relationships with Gondolin and Nine, he ensured military protection to the building-oriented city. Due to GTAIVisbest's diplomacy, the city became known as a neutral zone, and it frequently hosted arbitrations and conflict-resolutions inside it's large courthouse, built by player Wyartip and lightning1789 during the colony days.
On the 6th of April 2013, New Augusta hosted a mediation between the feuding city of Bereza and the Notdeath conglomerate over land claims, with GTAIVisbest presiding as arbitrator. However, New Augustan citizen lightning1789 disrupted the proceedings, attempting to stop the negotiations, embarassing New Augusta in the eye of the international community, and insulting foreign dignitaries, eventually attacking a member of the delegation. The crisis was eventually resolved when he was pearled by the New Augustan Prot Police. Ultimately, the arbitration was a success even though the incident uncovered deeper strains within the city.
During the 2013 server-wide uprising against the World Police, GTAIVisbest and a small group joined the anti-World Police forces under the name "New Augusta Brigade". After the succesful revoltion, the militia was disbanded and GTAIVisbest returned to New Augusta.
The city continued to grow exponentially until the events of the Hamster Debacle. As the map reset was announced, the server entered a large period of anarchy. New Augusta was spared from most grief, although almost all of its members decided to flee on foot away from the city and into the countryside to avoid being attacked by frenzied mobs. The day before the map reset, a small ceremony by some of the founding members was held.

In the beginning of 2.0, the cities that had agreed to populate the Metropolis were to organize themselves at -8000, -8000. A relief camp was contructed there for New Augusta citizens.
Later, the plans for the layout of cities in metro was released. New Augusta citizens were to go to the designated point in metro and commence business as usual as a city. Very few made the journey because this was still the time when the server had a lengthly queue to log in.
However, during that time no progress was being made, both in game and on the subreddit. Citizens bickered about themselves as for what to do about a new government. It was planned to keep the same constitution and government as in 1.0, but it was evident it would not work with so many new changes in 2.0.
One player in particular, /u/lightning1789, constantly hindered the people from coming to a consensus. This caused the lifelong leader of NA, GTAIVisbest, to leave the city. In the end, the restructuring of the government drove away most of the population from 1.0 that swore to keep their policies, which is why the current population of New Augusta today doesn't have many original New Augustans.
After GTA left, the city was thrown into a state of political disheveal. The election to elect the next Prime Minister was as heated it ever had been previously. Words were slung, and decrees were made, mostly by Lightning. He went as far as trying to change the goverment type to win. When that did not work, he dissolved New Augusta. This didn't work. Shortly after, Comped, along with imput from various others members of NA, wrote the 2nd defining document of NA, after the 1st constitution: the The Restructure of goverment (including nullification of laws) act, which passed unamiously, and was the governing document of New Augusta until the constitution was passed 3 months later (which took effect in September of 2013.).
Shortly after, the city centre was moved after buildings were starting to be built, with the main marketplace as the centre. The city was also divided into districts, with senators from each district making political decisions as a group.
That very political body was tsted on the night of December 15th 2013, when the PM at the time, HelmetTesterTJ, dissolved the New Augustan goverment, natinoalized private property, and tried to install himself as a dictator, in an effort to form the so called "East Augustan Company". Shamrock_Jones, who dissaproved of the bypassing of the constitution he wrote, for economic gains, prevented conflict from breaking out, by posting this message, in which he outlined the way forward for the city. It was followed, and HelmetTesterTJ was impeached. He was impeached within an hour of his "dissolving the goverment, by the very senate he dissolved. After a short term of having Enforcer15 as PM, Shamrock was elected to the office, in which he currently serves. Which brings us up to the present. NA has about 10 active citizens, and is progressing at it's own pace, far from both danger, and the go-getter feel of the rest of civcraft.
Government
As a member of The Metropolis, New Augusta abides by the Contract of Neighbourly understanding.

New Augusta currently has a senate system where each district elects a senator to sit on the council, and the senators make the vote on the laws of the city.

They have a Treaty of Good-Neighborliness and Friendly Cooperation between the City-States of New Augusta and Orion, proposed and written by Ambassador-At-Large Comped. It was ratified by both the New Augustan Senate, and the Orion people, by a wide majority, and continues to positively drive relations between the two cities to this day.

Districts
The City of New Augusta uses districts as a way of respresenting the population of each part of the city in laws and government. Each district has a say in laws through their Senator, which they elect to sit on the council. The Senators job is to represent the best interests of their respective district.

Economy
New Augusta has no economy to speak of.
Landmarks and Surroundings
This is an (outdated) image of the geography.
The terrain around New Augusta is praries, with very few hills. The most defining feature is the river running from the south around the north tip of the city, and then turning to go south again, effectively blocking land access from the city centre except from the south.
There is also a tundra biome, which the district of Snowy Vale inhabits.
The city also owns Comped field, a large cactus/portal farm, in the desert nearby, named after comped. There is a road to Minas Minas, a scant 600 meters or so away, along with a portion of a road to Freedom, and several tunnels heading to both Ancora and other, undisclosed, places.

GTAIVisbest - the central founder and leader of New Augusta in 1.0. Fromer Vice-President of Orion, and current diplomat for them, stationed in Mount Augusta.
Shamrock_Jones - (former?) leader of one of the Gondolin Houses, former PM of New Augusta. Well known businessman.
Comped - the Ambassador-At-Large of New Augusta. Tried buying the Agoran Federation at the end of 1.0 from Enforcer15 (along with comped's Tridentia Company/ the neverformed state of Tridentia, which turned out to be a bad idea. Later did a bunch of business deals, and came to NA to escape and reform. Played a major part in reviving the goverment of NA after Lightning's leaving, and served 2 full terms as a senator. Voted himself out of his own seat to become his current posistion. Current location is undisclosed, for security reasons.
