A vault is typically built at bedrock level, and consists of a single chest encased in a pyramid of reinforced obsidian. Often, additional fortifications are built to protect this pyramid, such as concentric rings of obsidian walls or [[Bastion|bastions]], or a nearby [[bunker]] to store defensive materials such as potions. Some consider the rings around a vault to be part of the vault itself. A variant of a bunker, called a sky bunker, is often built at the top of a vault to protect against [[Skybridge|skybridging]]. Depending on the number of surrounding rings, a vault can take hours or even days to break unchallenged.
