[[Southshire#Samcester|Samcester]], the capital of Southshire, features an eclectic mix of English styles. Its main focus is [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Victorian_architecture Victorian architecture], particularly [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gothic_Revival_architecture Gothic Revival]. Robo's drew the street plan, laid down the plots, and designed all public buildings; the city remains its largest project ever.
 
Samcester is not the only centrally-planned city on CivClassic, but certainly its most ambitious one. In order to simulate the winding, organic streets of a real English city, the plots are jagged and irregular, and sit at unusual angles. Designing convincing interiors with this tilt represented a profound technical challenge. The striking monuments of Samcester include the cathedral-like Samcester Parliament, the [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St_Pancras_railway_station St Pancras]-inspired Bugga's terminal, and the extravagantly Victorian museum of Castle Samuel. ===Urban renewal in Southshire (June - December 2021)===
Robo's was founded on June 1st, when the leader of [[Southshire]], [[StrPlatinum]], commissioned RoboRik to design a new capital. The city would soon be christened [[Southshire#Samcester|Samcester]]. Inspired by the British inflection of the name, RoboRik looked to England for inspiration. His finished design reflects the archetypical [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Victorian_architecture Victorian architecture] of the 19th century, particularly [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gothic_Revival_architecture Gothic Revival]. Like the winding alleyways of England, not one street or plot is perfectly straight. The three buildings on King Peter's Square represent the succession of powers that ruled Southshire: first the [[the Commonwealth|Commonwealth]], then [[Yoahtl]], and finally the independent Triumvirate. Samcester remains RoboRik's largest ever project on Civ.

By November, RoboRik was pivoting towards smaller-scale redevelopment in the existing capital, [[Southshire#City of Southend|Southend]]. He proposed a reconstruction of the abandoned [[Southshire#The Dark Forest Estates|Dark Oak Estates]], and planned a new square in the north-east of the city, with a museum and a railway terminal. The architectural vocabulary was once again rooted in England, this time borrowing the elegant [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Georgian_architecture Georgian style] of [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bath,_Somerset Bath]. Construction began on December 1st after a month of preparation. Yoahtl Gallery is a small exhibition space in [[Yoahtl#New Yoahtl City|New Yoahtl City]]. Conceived by [[Jyn]] and commissioned by the Yoahtl government, it displays and sells a rotating collection of [[Map Art|map art]] and hosts regular art competitions. The gallery is intended to mimic the fashionable art shops of real-lifeAmerican urban centres.

The plot is small and situated under a bridge crossing, demanding careful planning.
