Description

The Königlich-Preußischer Industrie-Steinbruch in Danzig was built to serve Danzig and Prussia as a whole with easy means to produce large quantities of cobblestone, smoothstone, stone bricks, snow, all types of woods, charcoal, and obsidian. The factory was intended to be a private business by Gotter, but was entirely funded by the city. The debts were not paid off before the world ended, so it was a public company the whole time.

The advantages of using the factory and its machines over strip or tunnel mining and other methods of gathering the resources include being able to process the harvest while continuously working, being in a safer environment, and making the process more streamlined and efficient.

Products and Services

The factory was accessible and usable by all Prussians. At the factory, they could produce for their own use:

  • Cobblestone
  • Smoothstone
  • Stone Brick
  • Snow
  • All 4 types of wood
  • Charcoal
  • Obsidian

and all the products derived from these materials.

The KPISb had numerous machines in the main factory building that allowed the production of these materials, as well as a sizable furnace and storage room during its existence. The furnace and storage room was meant to be temporary until the proper ones could be built. Machines and their specifications include (at 20tps):

  • Smoothstone Generator @4 Smoothstone/Second + a 10x11x12 Stacking Area with auto-off
  • Oak Wood Harvester that strips all leaves and stacks the wood in an 8x5x12 area
  • Cobblestone Generator @0.5 Cobble/Second + a 10x12 stacking area

Planned machines that were not able to be built or finished:

  • 32m and 16m-long String-to-Obsidian and Redstone-to-Obsidian Presses
  • Quad Snow Harvester
  • Upgraded Oak Wood Harvester for Oak, Birch, Spruce, and Jungle wood with 8x8x12 Stacking Area

A single worker by himself could produce a double chest of smoothstone in 40 minutes of continuous work (generally worth 2-3d on the market). While the smoothstone machine generated, which needed to be done 2-3 times per double chest, the worker could operate the wood harvester for those 5 minutes to produce enough charcoal to smelt the harvested cobblestone.

Structure

The factory was built, maintained, and mostly operated by Gotter, but all Prussians had free access to use the machines for themselves or Prussia. Once it became operational around late February, early March it produced an estimated 40-60% of smoothstone used in Danzig, along with nearly all the oak and charcoal.

Gotter took out a loan from Prussia to build the factory. To pay off the loan, he regularily produced at the factory and sold the goods for profit internationally. Before the world ended, 57d in profit had been made, mostly from the sale of obsidian and partially from smoothstone.

Calculations made from the worlddownload, which was created in the last days of the first world, allowed for the following material estimations to be made:

  • Raw materials for the buildings and complex: 37d + 24d in stone reinforcements
  • Wood Harvester + Stacker: 5d
  • Smoothstone Generator + Stacker: 9d
  • Cobblestone Generator + Stacker: 1.5d
  • Planned IRO storage: 42d + 68d in iron reinforcements

Total material value: ~187d

Nearly all smoothstone and obsidian was self-made by the factory once the machines were built, so the total cost of the loan by the end of the world (which excludes the planned IRO storage) was around 65d.

All calculations are accurate to roughly ±10%. Prices used are pre-iron inflation, shown in diamond (d). Labor for building the factory would likely be worth 2-4 times the material cost.

History

The construction of a factory for the mass production of needed materials in Danzig was first proposed in early December, 2012, in the first Civcraft world. The project was planned by Gotter for a period of about two months, but the location was already selected so terraforming began before the final designs were completed. Major construction began in late January, early February. The factory became operational at about 50% completion in March. When it was announced the world would be reset, it was about 85% complete.

Other names for the factory and company to operate the factory once the loans have been paid off include "CobbleCorp" and "Gotter & Ko". CobbleCorp was the name of Gotter's previous factories on other servers, which never had any plugins to protect builders, so they remained relatively small and hidden. Gotter & Ko is a play on "Gotter & Co" using the name of the co-founder, Koentinius.

In terms of experimentation with economics and founders, its successor is Baukunst in the second Civcraft world.
