Vinland is a constitutional monarchy with Amerikkalainen serving as king. Both internal and external affairs are handled collectively by inhabitants of Vinland. The typical way this is done is that a Citizens puts forward a proposal werafter both Citizens and Residents debate and vote on that proposal. Vinland emphasizes direct democracy and has no representatives with one notable exception that being the foreign minister, who interacts with other nations and is expected to keep the citizenry informed. The position of foreign minister is an elected one with a term lasting two months. Amerikkalainen currently holds the position, with the next election to be held on the 5th of November, 2018.
The main Vinlandic political parties are the Vinlandic Socialist Party, whom comprise of leftist, republican- orientated supporters who prioritise public service spending, higher taxes and a pacifistic foreign policy and the Vinland Monarchist Party; comprising mostly of royalist conservatives who argue for lower taxes, lower public spending and greater sovereignty through perusing a more aggressive foreign policy.
