Commonwealth of Nyasaland: Difference between revisions

Line 101:
The Government continued to campaign for a vote to remain, again stressing the economic catastrophe of leaving Annwyn, but there was no longer a clear line and the Fascist Party now campaigned for independence at any cost, fearing that a remain vote would sign away and Nyasan self-determination within Annwyn, and deprive them of future chances for peaceful independence - eternal servitude.

However, at the last hour, an unexpected salvation came. Nyasan explorersexplorer BennyZ had charted a land far to the south, dubbed 'Tanganyanka'. Tanganyanka was a land of swamps, deserts, mushroom isles - effectively all virgin land, and with the right climates and biomes to host the infrastructure neccessary to support Nyasan industry of the kind that Annwyn would have left them without. Previous economic analyses had understood that all surrounding biomes were already occupied by Annwyn, with their own infrastructure, rendering any further-afield industry unprofitable and irrelevant due to distance. With this, all that changed. Now, with only a bit of backbone and hard work, Nyasaland could have her own farms, factories, XP industry and the other crucial aspects that the national economy had become accustomed to.

A wave of nationalistic fervor and sudden optimism immediately swept the nation, with the Second Referendum, again, annulled before the polls were closed, and Nyasan negotiators announced to Annwyn the country's decision to go their own way. The '[https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Jaz89QEx4RVq1GQy3eDdU8pX-DdF6dcNSD7Dol6IqwY/edit Treaty on Relations]' was drafted later that day, formalising Nyasaland's independence.

Electoral data revealed that the NWP attracted either diehard support, or complete opposition; evidenced by their almost complete lack of second preference votes.

"''This is the one thing I told you not to do.''" -'''Syurii Palgrave, 1st April'''

Along with other political upheavals in early April came separate events which would eventually lead to the end of the Dominion of Yonder-Dixie. Cracks had been emerging in the union between Nyasaland and Yonder-Dixie for some time, with the sordid affair mostly being propped up by the personal rapport between Syurii Palgrave and Screenname, the Governor-General and Duke of Antietam.

Screenname however was not well liked however among the rest of the Nyasan populace, - many of his votes in the March election came from political disgruntlement rather than true support - and this tension came to a head on the 31st March, when he was killed and briefly pearled by a gang of disgruntled Nyasans and Gensokyojins in the Palgrave storehouse. This transpired while Syurii Palgrave was asleep, and once she woke up she quickly had an anyeurism, shouted herself hoarse, and had Screenname hastily released. However this event was a bridge too far, and would catalyze the long-growing tension to lead to the end of the Nyasan-Appomattox/Yonder-Dixie amalgamation; it was clear the situation was no longer tenable, and any goodwill which and underscored the union had crumbled.

Over the next few days negotiations were carried out between the new National Council and Screenname, eventually leading to the [https://docs.google.com/document/d/1MDmrfQAJtuy_bsqEIlZkBkBp6Cp1eLLO0NEDxrPgSjY/edit Treaty of Grestin] on the 5th April, which terminated the Dominion of Yonder-Dixie. Nyasaland retained only the territories of Cape Antegria and western Arstotzka, which were grouped under 'Makhnovschina' for settlement by Nyasaland's resident anarkiddies. Screenname however remained a Nyasan citizen for the purposes of enjoying UNC protection, as he feared further attacks from disgruntled Gensokyojin.
