<blockquote>"''This is so stupidly fucked.''" -'''Governor Cat_alunya, 20th December'''</blockquote>The Nyexit Debacle is long, complicated, and many parts of it remain classified. Suffice to say, it was the two-day period surrounding what was eventually Nyasaland's seperation from Annwyn. The country had been steadily growing, strong with nationalistic fervor - the latest outlet of which was the release of the new Anthem, Fair Nyasaland. Seeing this, and with defensive concerns of their own, Annwyn offered an independence referendum to Nyasaland in which they would be free to stay or leave.

The Nyexit Debacle is long, complicated, and many parts of it remain classified.

Initially, this was received warmly - there had been no great clamouring for freedom, but peaceful independence had been discussed within some sectors of the country, especially the Nyasaland Fascist Party - with hopes of a friendship treaty post-independence maintaining the current economic status quo. However, negotiations made it clear that continued Nyasan access to the Annwynian infrastructure that the country's populace had grown reliant on would not be on the table. Annwyn continued to insist on an independence referendum, effectively as a loyalty poll to avoid retaining a fiercely independently-minded populace.

Along with other political upheavals in early April came separate events which would eventually lead to the end of the Dominion of Yonder-Dixie. Cracks had been emerging in the union between Nyasaland and Yonder-Dixie for some time, with the sordid affair mostly being propped up by the personal rapport between Syurii Palgrave and Screenname, the Governor-General and Duke of Antietam.

Screenname however was not well liked however among the rest of the Nyasan populace - many of his votes in the March election came from political disgruntlement rather than true support - and this tension came to a head on the 31st March, when he was killed and briefly pearled by a gang of disgruntled Nyasans and Gensokyojins in the Palgrave storehouse. This transpired while Syurii Palgrave was asleep, and once she woke up she quickly had an anyeurism, shouted herself hoarse, and had Screenname hastily released. However this event was a bridge too far, and would catalyze the long-growing tension to lead to the end of the Nyasan-Appomattox/Yonder-Dixie amalgamation; it was clear the situation was no longer tenable, and any goodwill which and underscored the union had crumbled.
