The First Griefings

While still a young city at just over a month old, Danzig became the victim of its first series of heavy griefings. Zane and Retractzz came with lava buckets in hand and set the city in flames. Due to the construction style of the city using many flammable materials (wool and wood mainly), many buildings were nearly entirely lost and the Cathedral was heavily damaged. However, Danzig's dedicated citizens cleaned up and moved on quickly.

The Second Griefings

Account

About six months later, Danzig is hit again by a series of griefings by two apparently independent groups. The first incidents began on the 15th of March by the users of iiicsandersiii and candy_user. Neither has stated a reason for griefing the city, have avoided questioning by Prussians, quickly logged off when they spotted foes on their radar, and have escaped attempted capture numerous times including out of a DRO tomb. Both continued to raid and grief Danzig for several days.

On the 17th, K_swine attempts to break into the Danzig storage hall. He did not manage to steal anything, and was quickly chased out of town.

On the 22nd of March, while still under sporadic fire by the first group, Al Kaowni begins griefing Danzig as well. The players Rums and Balkanstove also set fire to several buildings and evaded an international effort to capture them twice. NJPalms apparently joined the two on the 25th to raid a house. Wolfmackenzie was also spotted alongside Balkanstove on the 2nd of April.

The Castle, Palace of Arts, and Factory are the only major buildings that went undamaged. An estimated 50% residential buildings were either destroyed or damaged. The S.M.S. Germania sank while docked in the harbor due to heavy hull damage.

As of the first week of April the griefings have subsided, but the perpetrators are still seen ocasionally in Danzig.

Suspicions of Cheating

iiicsandersiii and candy_user's methods of chest and snitch location and destruction are also incredibly suspicious due to snitch logs show them using chests up to 3964 times before suddenly breaking them. They also managed to locate and destroy numerous hidden chests and snitches (many of which were diamond-reinforced) in relatively short amounts of time, the most controversial of which was emptied while not breaking any of the reinforced blocks that enclosed it. Research also revealed a video of the former using hacks on another server. ChiefjusticeDredd ruled the evidence inconclusive.

Minor Griefings

Danzig experiences about one minor griefing or raiding a month, either by one or two people in cahoots. Nearly all attempts have been stopped, resulting in numerous pearlings over the months.

Effects on Danzig

The largest effect the griefings have had on Danzig is the destruction of buildings, sometimes destroying more than 90% of the construct. This was largely due to the flammable materials that players choose to use (wool and wood mainly). After the first griefings, it was decided that the current architectural style and building material choice should be kept to keep the city uniform and more traditional. Nearly all buildings were rebuilt. However, the second wave stirred up debate among citizens to rewrite the building code so that buildings are built with fewer flammable materials. The debate still continues as rebuilding efforts have just begun. Plans are being made to use this situation to the advantage of Danzig and redesign some areas of the city, including the harbor area to become a new market and financial district.
