|Government||Direct Democratic Republic|
|Foundation date||April 2020|
Mount Augusta (MtA) is a nation, located at 3840, -5900, with a history spanning back eight years throughout the Civ-genre. Existing on CivClassics and many other previous iterations before, the citizens of the nation made the decision to migrate to CivRealms in March 2020.
The city-state takes its name from its founders' attempts to randomly zoom in on places in Google Maps until a good name appeared. Eventually, the founders landed on Alaskan Boundary Peak 183, named "Mount Augusta", after the wife of an employee of the US Geological Survey, J. Augusta Olmsted Russell.
Before CivRealms, Mount Augusta existed in different iterations of various civ-genre servers. The very first server that Mount Augusta was involved in was Civcraft 1.0. Originally founded as the Augustan Republic, it became one of the most widely known cities, famed for its welcoming attitude and friendliness to new players. Despite suffering through wars, theatre performances, assassinations, and corruption scandals, Mount Augusta in Civcraft 1.0 was marked by the unity and fraternity of citizens, regardless of ideology.

In Civcraft 2.0, Mount Augusta was not immediately reformed, unlike many other heavily populated cities from the first map. Many Augustans continued with other cities (such as New Augusta, Carson, The Commonwealth and Lio) or simply became inactive.
It was not until a number of months into 2.0 when LeonardU made a call to Augustans to come together again and recreate the city on the new map. Off to the side of a quiet road leading into the deep (+,+), the first ground was broken and Mount Augusta began again. Old and new residents came to the location and the core of the city quickly sprang up.
On the 10th of January 2016, it was revealed that Civcraft 2.0 was going to end. The server went into chaos, with much violence erupting across the server. Prof_TANSTAAFL resigned as mayor, and plans for Mount Augusta in Civcraft 3.0 were made.
Mount Augusta's time in the short-lived Civcraft 3.0 was marked by intense cooperation. Led by Njordmir and aleksey_t, Mount Augusta quickly became a major player among the shards as an XP-producing trade powerhouse. This time would be short lived, however, as Civcraft 3.0 met its demise, and Mount Augusta moved on to Devoted 3.0.
Devoted 3.0 saw one of the most aesthetically stunning iterations of Mount Augusta yet, with beautiful curving roads, flowing terrain, and the heart and souls of its citizenry. The nation's friendliness towards newfriends was cemented in the choice to build Mount Augusta at a spawn point during this iteration. Mayor SerraNova, Diplomat Mirakles, and many other members of the nation held together its undying unity throughout iterations until this point. Facing terror threats like the Free State of Augusta terrorist movement that pearled much of the nations's citizenry, Mount Augusta produced valuable future judges out of the heroes that freed the nation, along the likes of Zachtack and Supa_Hot_Fire. However, much like other 3.0's, Devoted 3.0's time was limited, and the move to Civclassic was inevitable. Shortly before the end of Devoted 3.0, the citizenry of Mount Augusta agreed to move to an unofficial spin-off of Mount Augusta in Civclassic, the previous home of the city-state.

Founding and the Amaryllis Crisis
The move to CivRealms was made official by jovaz on April 1st. In the search of land to live on, the Mount Augustan people were generously offered all the land of Amaryllis, which would lead to a dispute on the western border with The Roman Empire. With Ahrimanne still acting as the figure head of Mount Augusta, negotiations begun with the Romans. After three days and the aid of Easy Solutions Online, a deal was struck, called the Amaryllian Accords. This agreement would grant the Romans, who claimed to have been waiting patiently for Amaryllian land, a large portion of Mount Augusta.
Not even three hours later, these Accords would be denounced and recognized as illegitimate by ComradeNick, citing non-consent and a lack of transparency. Because the Amaryllian people intended to cede their land to Mount Augusta and Mount Augusta only, an emergency mayor election was held. ComradeNick, who promised to peacefully resolve the dispute with the Romans, would go on to win the election.
The Age of Boris
A group called Boris was looking for a place to settle after previously being forced out of CivCorp and Varathia. Mt Augusta's mayor, at the time Topher3001, accepted them into Augusta on the condition that Augustan laws are obeyed. Boris accepted and the district of New New Boris was erected. However, problems soon arose. Boris found its roots in 9Chan, and much of the internal governance for the group took place there. Mt Augusta's government, however, had always taken place via reddit, including their elections. Thus, due to Boris members' refusal to create and use reddit, they were not represented in the government. This sparked a bitter feud between Boris and the rest of the Augustan citizens. At the height of the crisis, skirmishes were even breaking out in Augustan streets. However, as Boris began to grow tired and move on, the crisis ended mostly on it's own
Mount Augusta is located in the upper middle part of the mainland continent. It is bordered by The Roman Empire to the northwest, Wheatistan to the west and east and CivCorp to the south east. To the north, across a part of the ocean, one finds Carbon.
It is primary a biome consisting of steep, snowy mountains and beautiful river valleys. Unlike some previous iterations, Mount Augusta now features a natural mountain range, including Mountain Augusta.
While the nation itself is unitary, it does host a few informal districts, many with their own building themes.
Midtown / City Center
With the Voter Tree at its center (3840, -5906), Midtown features a range of buildings from high rises to little pubs. Here, one can find the Augustan Trade Center, 432 Park, The Ecumenical Gnostic Church and other buildings. The Voter Tree is where voter registration takes place, as it is situated in the middle of the city.
Inspired by the late Nro'meagh, a small group of people dedicate themselves to keep the Nro'meagh culture alive. Located to the northeast of Midtown and on the northern side of the two lakes, their buildings consist primarily of a mix of darker wood, cobblestone, stonebricks and green glass.
Tophloon Walled City
Currently, construction of a trench is underway to begin the building of Tophloon Walled City, a dense urban environment inspired by Kowloon Walled City slightly south of Boris.
Boris is a small district to the east of Midtown, built on the banks of a small lake, characterized by its chaotic and ever-changing appearance. There is no set theme, and building materials range from multi-colored wool to prismarine. Those who pass through will find a main central hallway / road running through the middle of Boris, surrounded on all sides by buildings.
Inside one of Mount Augusta's many mountains, Ground-Town is a underground town undergoing construction.
Next to Tophloon Walled City, slightly to the east, a small collectivist commune finds its place. Aiming to be a spiritual successor of the USA on CivClassics, materials are shared almost completely by everyone.
Weston is a planned suburb / mansion district, with an American suburbia theme. The town center will host multiple shop spaces, and the Arc de Triomphe.
Mount Augusta's basic law, the Constitution of Mount Augusta, intends to be a document which details the judiciary, executive, voting rights, and other functions of the state. Its predecessors were founded according to a minarchist philosophy that subscribes to the idea of a night-watchman state, aiming to provide military protection and courts to citizenry to protect from aggression, breach of contract and fraud while also safeguarding property rights. However, contemporarily, these ideals are challenged, and Mount Augusta has more of the characteristics of a typical democratic republic, perhaps influenced by the manner in which other democratic places with the rule of law in the world are rare and short-lived.
Laws are not created or changed by representatives, but by a direct vote of registered voters, who are anyone in the citizenry who has registered to vote recently. This distinguishes Mount Augusta as a direct democracy. Most law is contained in the Constitution of Mount Augusta (of which the Bill of Rights is a major part) and the Mount Augusta Criminal Code.
The government is composed of an elected Mayor, three Judges elected in staggered elections, and typically a Diplomat, elected or appointed, and a number of Cups, who form a Cupboard, comparable to a cabinet, all appointed by the Mayor. The Judges have the most legal power, as they interpret the laws and decide on conflicts in them, while the Mayor has some powers but is mainly a figurehead. The relative powerlessness of the executive (represented by the Mayor and Cupboard) is highly unusual among CivRealms and other Civ-genre countries, and is a result of the city's minarchistic philosophy. While political parties used to be significant in domestic politics, they are not so much any longer, and elections are generally on an individual basis.
The Mount Augusta legal system is perhaps one of its most distinctive features, and has a long history of robust function. There have been and still are disagreements among legal scholars and Judges over what sort of legal approaches should be used, with textualism, implied purposivism and common law being among them.
Mount Augusta has always been notable economically and strives to be the same on CivRealms. Its economy is capitalist, emphasizing strong private property, and involves many at various scales, internally and externally. The Mount Augusta Factory Organization (MAFO) works on a subscription based model and is not owned by the state. The MTA Federal Reserve oversees the minting of the MTA Dollar, the most widely-accepted currency in Mount Augusta. The Augustan Trade Center (ATC), a skyscraper inspired by the Empire State Building, also finds itself to be a central point of trade and the Augustan economy.
Mount Augusta has a strong property market, with plots located in midtown being a high commodity. In the future, MtA intends to construct an underground metro system, spanning most of its territory, akin to the MtA Metro in its predecessor on CivClassics, which will further increase economic strength to certain residential or commercial properties located near a metro entrance.
Mount Augusta has historically been the most populous and active country in previous iterations and intends to do the same on this server. At present, it is doubtful whether it holds this title, but it is among the most active and populous with over twenty citizens, most of whom are active and working tirelessly to get this new iteration of MtA up and running, and a smaller number of active non-citizens. Mount Augusta is noted for its openness to outsiders, hence its population is quite diverse, including newfriends, dual citizens, returned oldfriends and longtime Augustans with no dual citizenship. Mount Augusta in particular is known for accepting newfriends, and for oldfriends in other countries having spent time in Mount Augusta.
Mount Augusta's culture is defined first by its trade and ideology, which is unlike most nations. Though its great history and presence of notable figures also shape the Augustan culture.
